Angry Need Some Help Guys, In a sh*tty situation!

Hey guys an Gals, I will just get right to it...

My Fiancee an I were Driving on a gravel Road in her G5 and the road was well maintained, some potholes but nothing crazy or risky, when we were driving back down the road to check for some friends she hit a rock that came outa no where and hear the good ole fashion oil pan give out.. Luckily i work for CAA so i had a driver out there towing us in to the stealership who told us it would be $700 to fix it... I was like HOLY ****! but then my fiance just called me crying saying they called her and told her that she also cracked the tranny and it was now going to cost +$5000.00 to fix it..... WAYYYY too much and dont know what to do, any of you guys have any advice or sugestions? does Comprehensive insurance cover stuff like this? are these guys just straight trying to get money from us because it was just oil that was leaking after we hit that rock?

Thanks in advance for any help.....

Tom

Insurance should cover that, as long as it's a legit road and you werent off roading in a G5.

Insurance has nothing to do with how it happened (unless your drunk / reckless)... accidents are accidents...

I just had a performance tranny built and installed for under $4k so that number is way off they gave you.

icbc will cover it, however it will be considered 100% your fault and your rates will likely go up. i know if you hit a tire tread on the freeway its your fault, however if the tread was hit by another car and moving at the time you hit it, its not your fault.

all gm is going ot do is install a reman or new transmission, they wont rebuild or swap cases (many dealerships dont even have dedicated transmission techs anymore), this is why its going to be so costly.

Yeah i Kinda figured they would throw a whole new one in there, ICBC (B.C.'s dirtbag inurance company) ARE going to cover it, BUT as expected they did say her ins payments will go up 100 bucks a month for 3 years, bringing her ins up to $330/month!! lol I drive an SS/SC and I pay $202/month

Look at it this way - 100/mo for 3 years plus 500 deductible is still less than 5k. Given those two options, she picked the better one. Probably could have gotten it fixed for less, but at least she has peace of mind.

True, and she gets 3 years to pay it instead of having to come up with 5k in one shot.

Although I agree with the posters above, 5 large seems a bit steep to r&r a (likely) used tranny and an oil pan.......

To bad I didn't see this earlier because I would have suggested buying the parts and bringing the car here and we could have done the install. I have become experienced in these matters thanks to you-know-who.

the option is always there to get a used transmission and swap it in, or have a tranny shop swap the case.
