Newest Clutch victim

It finally happened to me. I was coming home from work and it was raining. I have been waiting for a rainy day to test how well the ZZP billet motor mounts works when its wet, it does by the way. So i stop on the road and do a 3 grand launch, starts spinning the wheels like no other, then i powershift to second and the wheel spin stops but everything else is still going, SC whine, tach. I immediatly let of the gas and then i smelled the clutch. GRRRRRRRRRRRR. The car only has 1683 miles. Anyway i came home and got a shower then took it back out, Went for a drive powershifting and everything was fine, no clutch slippage. I stopped in the same spot and did another launch and this time everything was fine I know there are prolly a million posts about this i just wanted to share mine. Apperently the "Awesome" hp gains from the Injen CAI was to much for the stock clutch, LOL. Oh and dont flame me i'm not good at driving a stick, cause i have been driving sticks for 6 years. Anyway, why did it not do it again?? That is so confusing......

When you heat up the clutch like that, it's going to slip. When it slips all the time, then it's toast. You're probably fine...although I've heared so many people say power-shifting, especially the 1-2 shift, is the best way to permanantly fry your clutch.

Sounds like you glazed the clutch over? I have been seeing this more often. Try and be a little more friendly when dumping the clutch and by friendly I mean no 3000 rpm drops and powershifting. You are asking for trouble with this clutch set-up if you continue this method!

get the SPEC stage 3+ clutch can a lighter flywheel and you can dump it and powershift whenever you want to. That's my next mod!!

The clutch in this car isnt a fantastic cluch. its fine, but when you drop it at 3,000 rpm.... DUH. you dont need to drop it at 3,000 rom anyway because its gonna spin. let out of the clutch and the moment it gets into 1st floor it if you want to go. thats like trying to grab a ceiling fan with your hands when its going full speed....

My opinion my not be pertinent, cause as you can see from my signature, I am not 100% stock, but if I am rolling in 2nd on wet roads, all I have to do is floor it and I break the tires loose, so a wet road launch in 1st at 3k proves nothing other than like Chipmonk said that the car was likely not roling fast enough to shift to second with full engine torque. You were likely slipping the clutch in second rather than spinning the tires. You probably did not hurt the clutch long term providing you do not continue this abuse. I took my stock clutch out at 25k miles and it looked like new. And the car has been driven hard.

I launch at 3500rpm. Stock clutch. Lots of ppl have similar experiences. You prolly just glazed it over. The comment about the relative velocity sounds right on the money.

clutch problems and drivers

we have over 30,000 miles on ss/sc. we have been on the track many times and no problesm with the clutch, if u want to bash on this clutch get smaller rims then it will hold and spin the crap out them,i have an acura also with a spec stage 3 and when i had my 18's on there it would slip also and it was a stage 3 now 15'' wheels and no slip whatsoever,be gentle to the car with stock wheels and clutch... the dealer will replace the clutch if it goes bad under warranty , my brother works at the dealer here in tuscaloosa AL. as a service writer and they will fix it

Wow, if you expect a stock clutch to hold up and be all fine after what YOU JUST DID, you're not too bright up there. I don't care if you had 100 whp, what you did would've still destroyed the clutch. I'm just shy of 14,000 miles and my clutch is holding pretty well with a lot of beatings in the past.

Here's my advice: Stop powershifting and dumping the clutch at 3 grand.

Well opps. I guess this car is the exception to the roll. I never had this problem in chevy 350's with sticks, and they put down more hp. Oh well now i know, and thanks to all the ******** bashing me.

you post telling us how you were launching at 3 grand and powershifting and your clutch broke... we were jsut saying to be careful and not to do that anymore because that will kill your clutch...

Well that's because everything they made in the past was built to last. Now everything is built to be cheap so industries can make more money.

Because they werent out to make money in the past? Older cars had 10 times the problems the newer ones have, especially when you abuse them.
