I think this is the most ridiculous part ive ever seen offered. For the price of the parts alone, and then if you pay to have it installed..... I bet we can count the number of Cobalt/Redline/Saab owners that actually do this conversion on 1 hand. Its a nice piece no doubt and they definitely improved the first gear ratio, but 4K for that is outrageous.

Ok, just spoke Quaife USA, and they are still testing this item at this time. No ETA on when it will be available for sale, and no cost at this moment. I will keep the community posted.

if they can get the price closer to half of what was posted i'll buy 2. even if there is something available to just order the parts for the change and i just do it myself.

4k is well out of my range for just a part alone, its a cool part and all, but i just cant swing it.

i thought i heard somewhere that gm was coming out with a 6 spd cobalt for 08 models? perhaps just rumors?

Other than first gear i see no advantage at all to this, besides couldnt you just swap a new 1st gear into the existing 5 speed? Has anyone thought of doing that?

The 6 speed conversion would actually make it a tiny bit worse for highway mileage. It is a close ratio 6 speed, meaning it is better suited for keeping the engine in its powerband for racing. Not at all like the T56 in the corvette which has a deep overdrive for cruising.

^ ^ Exactly. Look at the 6th gear vs. the stock 5ht gear. 6th is actually slightly worse.

5-Speed @ 6450rpm:

Gearbox:- 5-Speed Cobalt SS Supercharged @ 6450rpm
Tyre:- Pirelli Pzero Rosso Asymmetrico 215/45/18
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Gear gives 26.947 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 173.806 MPH at 6450 RPM
6-Speed @ 6450rpm:
Gearbox:- 6-Speed Cobalt SS Supercharged @ 6450rpm
Tyre:- Pirelli Pzero Rosso Asymmetrico 215/45/18
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Gear gives 26.793 MPH/1000 RPM and a top speed of 172.818 MPH at 6450 RPM

It's the same F40 that is in the G6. 6th gear isn't much different in that, either, but the final drive is 3.55, so you'd still be getting better fuel economy out of it. However, that will cost you some acceleration.

Ive thought of doing that with mine, ive looked at the saabs that come in for service at my dealership, like the shifter and cables the bolt pattern is the same. i drove one and it seems ok. i wont be able to tell till i get one. the only difference i saw was 6th gear rpm it was 2500 at 80mph instead of 3000rpm at 80 mph in mine. i dont think it comes with an lsd tho id have to get an lsd and rebuild the 6 speed to put the diff. in. Idk mainly its money that has stopped me

Quaife's LSD for the F$0 is $1495. The rpms at cruising are lower due to the 3.55 final gears I mentioned above.

To the guy looking into customer gearing, the first gear needs to be lengthened, 2-5 could stay the same, and then that killer overdrive you're talking about. Actually, their 3.0 (or whatever it is exactly) ratio they already have for 1st gear is good, so really, they just need to make the kit have a little longer gearing overall for fuel economy, but that's gonna go against what the real racing enthusiasts want, so might not work out too well for the rest of us.

I doubt the diff is included. I am sure my rep would have said that.
