2007 w. LSD

I'm very happy with it. We've had an unusual winter here in the North West and the LSD naturally adds a great deal of stability/traction to the car on shitty road surfaces ( coming off a light on an icy hill for example).
With dry conditions, It has bennefits aswell; exiting a corner hard, it does a "fair" job of preventing the inside wheel from spinning and results in a great deal less understeer/plow and tire wear. That being said, it's still a FWD car that has inherrant dynamic instability when cornering.
As far as other posts are concerned, I guess they speak for themselves.
LSD's are not put on performance cars for the **** of it; they work, and they work well. Any argument to the contrary is simple minded to put it mildly.
If a person uses their car for comuting to work and getting groceries, I guess there is little advantage to having one.

Well I do have the LSD in my car (mostly becaue I wanted the Recaros) but none the less I do have it! And would never buy a car from now on without it! And why do you thing most of the new "performance" cars are comming with it if it isn't worth it! The SRT-4 (quaife ATB), New Civic Si (quaife ATB), Cobalt SS/ Ion RL (Quaife ATB), this is starting to sound like a little trend, enough said... All of us that have it think it's worth it, those who don't.... don't! So either you're jealous or don't know really what it does! Thank you and good night!

I wish I had it more for the day to day driving than for the track. I felt like a damn idiot trying to drive home from work the other day.

You have that backwards.

If a wheel in a FWD car without limited slip starts to spin while accelerating, you lose acceleration. That's it. You let off the throttle and the wheel stops spinning.

If a wheel in a FWD car WITH limited slip starts to spin while accelerating, the other wheel will start to spin also (albiet much more difficult to get spinning). But when it does, the entire front of the car is very unstable and can easily run you off the road.

So if us 2.4L 5spd got a salvaged ss s/c w/ g85 we could take their LSD and use it right?

I just got stuck on a uphill onramp, and then again coming up back into my apartment complex. There are pretty extreme conditions out today for Ohio......I could pretty much let out on my clutch without giving it gas and get wheelspin. Without momentum I would have NEVER been able to get my one-wheeler where it was going in todays conditions. When your wheel spins at a whopping 1100 rpm you begin to realize that a LSD would be handy. There is no way this car is getting me to work tonight, and I'm a pretty experienced driver. Having other vehicles (chevelle, firebird, camaro, jeep) with lsd's in the past makes me a believer. Which is what led me to crack open a cold one and search for information on LSD's, and what I've got to do to get one. It would have been better to get a SS/SC already equipped with one but the price was soooo right I had to buy this car. LSD's are worth it, for all kinds of reasons. It all must boil down to jealousy. Take the LSD challenge (haha) go get one and tell us you hate it and it's not worth it!

Wrong!!!!!! Hardly anyone runs Quaife in their Grand Prixs. I can count all of them on 2 hands and have a few fingers left over.

Most people that own Grand Prixs run a STOCK OPEN DIFFERENTIAL. Quaife discontinued their LSD for the Grand Prix about 3 years ago, they are not even available anymore.

There are a few other reasons, but mostly because there are no reilable units out there that work. Even the Quaife's that do exist have had serious issues with thrust washers failing. Even Intense had tried to make one, and after about 10,000 revisions the clutch based differential they sell is still a piece of garbage! It has been known to grenade transmissions. All it was is a modified stock unit with added springs and clutches to make it an LSD. There are a few other differentials available, but all are clutch based and still don't produce 100% results (even if they don't grenade a transmission).

ZZP runs a stock open differential in their world record setting twin turbo Grand Prix that ran 9.01 at about 152mph. If you know how to do a proper burnout in a front wheel drive car, an LSD is not necessary....it has been proven.

They are nice, and do make it easier for the novice to avoid the "1 tire fire". They have more benefits on a front wheel drive car on a road coarse than a drag strip (if you know what you are doing).
