Replacing the Clutch
Replacing the Clutch
Hi I don't post here very much but I read posts on here everyday... I have a 06 2.4ss About a year ago I broke the sychro in 2nd gear, and I finally saved up enough money to get a used transmission with only 16,000 miles on it. I ordered the stock exedy clutch from ebay. Now I have never replaced a clutch before. I have the GM build book transmission section, and I have read the post that is in the how-to section. But I want to make sure I do everything right, and I have a few questions. And if anybody has any secrets to make this go as smooth as possible I would love it. Thanks for all the help in advance I appreciate it.
Do I need a engine hoist? I will have 2 jacks and 6 jack stands.
Does the fly wheel have to be resurfaced? If its not will it hurt anything?
I read that the push out bearing( I think thats what its called) should be replaced. But the Transmission I bought only has 16,000 is the bearing fine?
Just use ATF that I can get at Wal-Mart(not the walmart brand tho)?
I also have almost 95,000 miles on it what other maintence should I do while im down there? I'm thinking maybe coolant.
I had a couple more questions, but I can't think of them right now.
Thanks again.

I'm in the same boat just put a clutch in on a semi here at work for the first time so i'm thinking of tackling the trans on my 2.4. The build book has some good pictures and there is a how to on a 2.4 clutch install with pictures and a few other guys who've done it chime in with a few tips as well. BTW i've had 2nd gear syncro go out twice, a brand new trans was put in after the 1st time and that syncro went out with pretty much zero abuse.
