i dont' think there is a "cheap" alternative at all. that being said, anything can be done for the right pric.

Only the SS/SC has a SAAB (FGP) tranny, the 2.2 and 2.4 have Getrag trannys.

The 6 speed version of the same tranny was only available in Canada. The SAAB 6 speed in the US is a different tranny.

Pull a 9-3's 3.53 final drive ratio out of it. You'll be much happier

you can do that?? i never heard of that. how would i go about finding one of those transmissions with it?? id love love to do that because 1st would be longer, which is better traction and i bet that your quarter mile time would be better even though your gears are gonna be longer.

from what i've read, the Saab 9-3 turbo from 1998 - 2004 are the years of tranny you should be looking for if i remember correctly. i was actually thinking about doing that myself. Make sure you get one with the LSD in it though

yeah ive read that thread and i think that its just a rediculous pricing and not worth it. 4k for an extra gear and to stay in the powerband. im setting my car up for drag racing not autocrossing.

haha i heard that. if it was to drop say $2k or so, that would mos def be worth it. but $4k... thats huge. maybe you could offset the cost by selling your tranny? or see if you can trade with a dealer or something?

nah you cant sell your tranny because all the kit comes with is the gears and shafts, which makes it even more bs and without an lsd. if it came with the tranny and everything installed as a six speed, then it might be worth it because then i would be able to sell my tranny.
