Short Shifter Question
Short Shifter Question
I dont like how fifth is on my Hurst shifter. The gears look something like:
1 3 5
2 4 __ R
Is there any way to make them:
1 3 5
2 4 R
I want it like stock so that when you push it to the right from neutral, you can push it all the way to the right and up to get into 5th or reverse. Are all short shifters like the Hurst?

I'm having a similar problem. Accept mine feels like there is too much room to the right of 5th. This makes it hard to hit sometimes
uh... something like this

I guess this makes sense though, because the thing I like most about it is that the gears feel closer together, hence short "throw". But I do wish 5th was easier to hit. I'm thinking of fitting a metal plate in there as a stop.

I did and it made no difference

then you didnt do it properly.
keep trying.
guys seriously, this is ALL in the cables.
you have to spend some time with it to get them adjusted properly.
my hurst gates into 5th exactly like stock.
reverse and reverse lockout works perfectly.
you cant expect to change the entire geometry of your shifter, and expect the cables to just clip up and be perfect.
keep trying.

I have to say I have tried to adjust my cables as well and it's still off.
Mine is just like your roadrage

My reverse lock out doesn't work either so I guess once you can get that to work the rest will be back to normal. I have tried though. I hate it so much i'm about to put the stocker back in. I don't fell much of a difference anyway.

if your 5th gear gate goes past the gear,
move your shifter to the CORRECT 5th gear position, and MARK THE CABLE.
then move the shifter back to neutral, unclip it, and move it the distance that it was out, then reclip it.
do this a few times, by trial and error until its perfect.
ugh i feel another video howto coming on :X
and hows that workin out for ya?

god damnit.
its ****** cold outside right now, even in my garage :P
snowed a few inches lastnight.
Ill think about it.
i forget (been a while since i installed), can you adjust the cables without taking the top guard off?
or can you see it ok just removing the shifter boot?
if i can make a vid just removing the shifter boot ill probably go do one.

ok, thanks.
Also, to get my shifter H-diagram to face the right direction I had to twist the shifter so the bottom of it was no longer parallel with the guard housing thing.
I'd like to also add that this corrected how loose the shifter was before, it no longer rotates back and forth. But it made it harder to get into first. So, how correct is this?

why are you quick shifting into an overdrive gear?
The knob and the and piece just below it are counter rotating and will lock together. You loosen the knob or the counter piece and put the know into the right position and tighten the counter piece until they are very very snug. You need a huge crescent wrench to do this.
I don't think you can. When I installed I was told to mark the cabls and put them back exactly where they were with the regular shifter or else the car wouldn't shift.
ok, thanks.

A pic showing exactly where you need to clip the shifter would be more then good enough
