GM syncromesh

after a few research on the site and out my own experience i settled for GM synchromesh, about 15 bux/qt. i tried royal purple 75w90 on my first tranny oil change and let me tell you, this syncromesh is much better right off the bat. apparently this one is of the most common used on some of GM high end cars and even some imports prefer this fluid also. part #12345349

Syncromesh isnt designed for either Cobalt manual transmission.

The F23 in the 2.2/2.4 uses Dexron VI
The F35 in the 2008-9 2.0's uses P/N:88862472
this is a new number than was used for the 2004-2007 trans'. This "new" fluid is a 75w85 GL4 GM switched to this to help fuel economy, and make the synchros happy, its also available from Mitusbishi(the EVO 6speed uses it) as DiaQueen, and its actually Castrol Syntrans, if you want non dealer specific stuff. Its not cheap because its synthetic, but its good stuff, it also gets used in the big NVG4500 trans in trucks.

And btw I dont know where youre getting your info, but Synchromesh isnt used in high end GM transmissions. Its the stuff that went in the crappy NV1500 of S10 fame, and lots of older transmissions. All the new "high end" cars (Vette, CTS, CTS-V, Monaro, etc....) all use either "Manual Transmission Fluid" otherwise known as Dexron III, or they use 75w90 GL5 just like the F35 in the IRL and SS/SC(the Solstice uses 75w90 but in GL3 spec)

If youve got an F23 you need Dexron VI if youve got an F35 you need a GL5 rated 75w90

2qts will be enough for either trans. Just fill up till it comes out the hole.

 

I just replaced my axles and refilled with Saturn Manual Transmission Fluid part #21018899.

using prior searches on here, I kept coming up with that number.....and it looked exactly like what came out when I drained my transmission. My car is shifting much smoother than before, so I'm hoping that I didn't screw up and use the wrong stuff, especially at $15 a quart.

 

Thats the 75w90 GL5 fluid.

 

cool, cuz it didnt' list the weight anywhere and looked like regular trans. fluid to me... 75w90 just brings to mind a thick as hell gear oil

 

75/90 is about as thick as 5w30 engine oil....

 

Royal purple 75/90=WIN

 

Redline 75w90 NS is really good stuff.

You need to use gear oil(75/90).


NOT Dexron. Dexron is ATF and will make bad **** happen to your syncros.

ok, my bad...but that was really what i came up with after reading trough some threads here, i cant find them anymore.
hmmmm, was it terrible for me to have used the synchromesh? when i got my new engine and put 30k miles on it before i changed it. the fluid it had in there still looked perfect. i replaced it listening to the hype for RP 75w90 that everyone here recommends. but 20+k miles later, it didn't look as good, but yea it still had a lot of life in it. i just assumed that the synchromesh was the one that was in there before.

which one it then maven, i would like the GM specific tranny fluid for the F35 other than the RP brand.

In this case Red Line is the cheaper of the two. Its usually the other way around.

Yes I agree with Maven. Redline is the better quality product.

 

Notes: Recommended for manual transmissions and non-limited slip applications.

why does it say that for the redline brand. have people been using this fo the G85s, wit no problems?

 

I saw that also, but that is the redline product that Maven recommended. Im assuming he has used it in customers cars before.
