I cant seem to find P/N 88862472 at any of my local dealerships. They say they can order it but it will take 2 weeks and cost $28/quart. Is this the absolute best option for my 08 SS/TC with Limited Slip? I read this entire thread but am still kind of confused. Is the Redline 75W-90NS safe to use? Im guessing Royal Purple Synchromax or any other RP Product would be a no no. I want the absolute best and most recommended stuff. Thank you for any info.

There aren't any compatible fluids with the GM 88862472 fluid specified for the F35 in 08-09 SS/TC. You are better off getting the right stuff and NOT using an aftermarket fluid.

The 08-up fluid(88862472) is very hard to come by, I have been using 21018899 in its place, the newer "72" fluid is slightly thinner than the "99" but I havent heard any complaints from anyone. Ive even had to put the 99 fluid into warranty repair TC transmissions(because the new stuff can take so long to acquire), GM paid for it, so at least some people consider it an acceptable substitute.

Thanks for the responses. I was about to pick up some AMSOIL MTG since it seemed like it fit the bill, but I will just wait it out for the factory stuff. Thanks!

Then you should be sure to flush it with the proper fluid.

Maven is this a do-it-yourself type maintenance? Pull the plug, fluid drains by gravity, put the plug back in, and pour the new fluid in until it comes out the fill hole? I heard the dealer charges something like $200 for transmission fluid change, is this true? If so, that does not make sense since they will change the motor oil for $70. I have the F35 transmission in an 08 Cobalt SS with 15,000 miles, never changed the transmission fluid before. I know the fluid lasts a long time, but I want to change it because the car is new and there might be metal shavings in there, peace of mind.

Yeah, its only a little harder than changin engine oil. $200 is obscene, and sounds like they are charging you for an auto trans flush procedure, not for manual trans, manual trans should be about 1hr of labor and say $40-$50 for fluid.

We have a Quaife ATB limited slip. It wasn't really advertised or marketed very well. Ford, OTOH, really milks its advertising for all it is worth with the Focus RS. Quaife ATB? Check. RevoKnuckle? Check. It's basically the same setup as our SS/TC's (Quaife ATB and revised steering knuckles), but with a better interior and about $10k USD more.

They never ran the Focus RS against the SS/TC, but I suspect the SS/TC has the slight advantage due to reduced weight and better agility. The Focus RS couldn't beat a few cars that the SS/TC passed on the track.

Use GM 21018899, if you cant that or its always warm where you live or you plan on mercilessly beating your car you can use Redline 75w90NS, under no circumstances should you use ANY normal 75w90 .

How often are you all changing out the fluid in the MU3s? I know that GM says that it needs no regular changes, I don't believe that. Is 45-50K miles a good time to change it, or should it still have plenty of life left to it?

Also what size allen wrench are you all using on the drain and fill plugs? I have looked at the before, and the drain plug looks really close to the crade. Which works better for this and allen key socket, or just a standard angled allen wrench?
