transmission

Ok tonight on my way home I was on the highway doing a normal drive, decided to down shift to 3rd gear from fourth to pass this car. Tried to go back to fourth a the motor reved up. So I went to 5th gear. At the next stop light rowed through the gears everything was fine. Is this a sympton of clutch slip...?

when you're at a stoplight the transmission is not spinning so of course it will go from gear to gear without a problem. if you have the 2.2 engine, there have been other threads where users have been having problems with going from gear to gear, that is either clutch wear or damage synchros or worn synchros. if you can downshift without a problem but on the up shift you have problems, it could be that your linkage is jamming at that point and when you got to 5th it should be using the same links as when you go to 3rd, which may explain why you're not having the problem going 3rd to 5th. hope that helps!

try going wide open throttle in 5th gear if the clutch is slipping you'll know it... if it doesn't you probably just need an adjustment somewhere. Note: this is a test that can be performed but shouldn't be repeated over and over... it can and probably will damage the clutch if it is done repeatedly. But trying it once shouldn't hurt it too much... good luck!

I think the trans fluid got hot or is low, I am the second owner of this car. Time to inspect the car. Aprox 54,000 miles 05 ss/sc. Is royal purple good stuff or should I use Lucas products?

use GM fluid. don't use RP, the trans doesn't do well with it over time.

its highly unlikey its your clutch.

Its possibll the roll pin.

Its very possibly poor technique

it could be 4th gear blocker ring wear.
