Transmission Help!

A few days ago I was driving and blew out my transmission. I took it to a very trusted transmission place that I know and have dealt with before and upon further inspection it was mangled to the point where I'd spend just as much money rebuilding it compared to buying a new one. (dealing in warranty and all that stuff, not just cash) They also had a problem with the splines or spindles, saying that GM stopped producing them. Due to the fact I would rather not spend $3500+ on a transmission for a car I'm offing hopefully in the next few weeks I went on the search for a used one. I found one on Craigslist but I was kind of confused. The kid claims to have a 2007 SS 5 Speed Turbo transmission with LSD. I asked him some more questions and I found out it has an aftermarket Quaife LSD. 4.05 gears and in great condition. Been sitting around for 2 years and also said like stated earlier that it came out of a Cobalt T/C. Not sure if the dealership may have put it in there.

Anyone have any assumptions of what could have happened and is it worth the $500 to get it and put it in my car compared to $3500? I just need to know if it will bolt up properly and I won't run into any issues that will lead to blowing it as soon as I drive off the lot. I've searched some good threads and I've seen a lot of different answers from the F35 4.05 to the 3.82.

Anyone got any knowledge to this?

500$ is a great deal for a lnf trans expescially if it has a quaife lsd in it. It would be stupid not to buy it assuming there is nothing wrong with it and the guy isn't lying about it. Also just ao you know the lnf trans bolts right up to a lsj with no modification needed its a direct swap. In my opinion its probably a lsj trans though because to change the final drive to 4.05 would mean they had to change the pinion as well and thats part of the entire cluster shaft.

if its a 4.05 ratio its from an ss/sc. all the turbo cobalts from factory got 3.82 final drives. now being its got an "aftermarket quaife" diff (quaife built the lsd for gm, its the same diff, but maybe added in afterwards), its hard to say. the tag on the transmission will confirm what it is.

for $500, seems like its worth it. either f35 will bolt in without issues.

I figured it wasn't an LNF F35 when he said it was 4.05 and an aftermarket quaife LSD.

In the long run I shouldn't experience any issues or reliability problems, granted the kid isn't lying about mileage or anything?

That looks to be a picture of a lsj non lsd trans from the tag. If you would like to know if its lsd or not look threw the axle holes.
This would be a picture of a non lsd trans

And this would be a picture of a lsd trans see how it has no rod in the middle

Yea, he said it has an aftermarket LSD so I'm having him send me a picture to check that hole for the LSD.

Yes it can and its a great idea to do so as the lsj one tends to fail.
