Transmission Switch

OK...im sick of my cobalt since its an automatic (05 2.2 LS). Im looking for a Peice of **** ion so i can switch the transmissions and get a 5-speed manual. Am i in for a ride or what. Can anybody give me opinions or a direction to go. I just need the parts, i will install everything myself with my dad since he is a GM mechanic.

Please somebody help me!

I am not going to sell my cobalt becuase everything else about it is perfect. I just hate automatics because the car is in control and it should me me since i am driving it.

You would need to rewire the engine harness, delete the TCM, and reflash your ECM. On top of ofcourse replace the trans itself and getting all the shifter linkages. This kind of a swap on a production car does not make sense. It is cheaper and easier to simply trade-in.

I would recommend that you wait until HPTuners supports our ECM. They already support the TCM. Put in a high stall torque converter and tune the trans, and you will go faster than any manual.

faster than any manual is highly debatable.

But I think the point is that an auto is boring, and he want's a stick, it's not about perfomrance from what I get from his post.

Fine, but you still missed my first point. Trade-in for what you want. It makes no sense to try and change the one you have.

I wont be able to find another LS loaded like mine was and the car was a gift to me from my parents last year. I don't want to feal unapreciative. I have already put 2 grand into the car. I am not going to make that back on a trade.

The ss/sc is awesome but i cannot afford the insurance since im only 17 and still in school..it would be nice though. I hope to get one eventually if not something better

better?!?! Oh, you must have meant redline

Yea, it really isn't possible. Not with out support form HPTuners, and even then, it will be FAR from easy.

another thing you need to consider is that you can say goodbye to pretty much your entire powertrain warranty, since it didnt come from the factory and they didn't install it, they will not cover any part of the tranny so if your linkage goes your fucked.
