Exclamation Very Scared about Transmission.

Guys please help me out here. If its nothing please just comfort my fears.

Since the temperature has dropped it seems as if my gear shifter gets VERY tight.

Going into 1st, isn't bad but has a very little amount of friction, 2nd is perfect, 3rd has some resistance, 4th is perfect. 5th however is my main concern, it feels as is i'm pushing it against a rubber pad. Its very awkward, as after the car warms up and i've driven in 5th it drives just like it did the first day I got it.

The transmission still shifts smooth, the only time the car rocks a bit is no more than a manual is supposed to on decelerate.

Is this normal? Anybody else have this issue?

At least on my old Accord, the thing was always ornery in the winter.. I'd assume because, like the rest of the car, everything gets cold and stiff.. I'd assume you have nothing to worry about..

I'm going to go off on a limb and say you're fine and not to worry. Your transmission being cold can act differently until it's warmed up. Mine has gotten pretty tight in the 30' weather

cold fluid is thicker than warm fluid.

Why would it only be certain gears then? I admit moving throughout the whole gear pattern is "stiffer" say in the morning. However after a few hours of not driving it, 5th gear is stiff to the point of almost not feeling like its going all the way in gear. It doesn't require a lot of force but it definitely feels tight.

I will assume considering on a tranny if somethings bad, warming up doesn't usually fix things lol. Its probably fine, I just have become well aware that you guys on here generally know quite a bit more than me

Thanks!

You may want to take it in and have it checked. Mechanics have a term for this but I can't recall what it is. I had an old Lumina and it did this same thing. Eventually the tranny went (it had 140K on the odo). Take it to a tranny shop and get it looked at. It's free and it can't hurt anything...

If 5th gear doesnt get better right around the same time as the other gears do there is likely an issue

Lumina? Did they ever even make the Lumina in 5 speed? New to me if so?
Please elaborate on what you mean.

What he said. If you have 30K on the odo take it to the dealership and have them look at it. Just explain the issue as accurately as you can (I'd ask to speak with the tech who is working on it so that you can convey the message directly to him and he can ask questions if he has any). If you have aftermarket parts on your car they really would have to prove the aftermarket parts caused the damage if there is any.

Yes it could be a synchronizer assembly issue.
