im buying a single din radio and i want to know if this kit Stereo Radio install Mount Dash Kit +Wire Harness Plug | eBay would work properly. I have the pioneer system and i heard that an aftermarket radio will cause problems with the stock sub. Is that true? and also whats the red wire in the pic for?

 

Yes that is right! The red wire is your accessory wire... It goes from the Wiring harness to the Amp turn on wire to turn on your stock amp, i believe it's blue or green... but don't quote me on that!

As for messing it up, it wont.. you just have to have that amp turn on lead go to the stock amp power turn on.

You will also lose function of your steering wheel controls.

 

kit will work. the red wire is for dropping ignition from the aftermarket radio to the passenger side console panel near the BCM (ign wire is generally thick gauge pink).

as for the harness...what year is your balt and does it have onstar?

 

05, no onstar, pioneer system with sub

Yah if you were to wire up everything on the harness, to your aftermarket deck harness, you would have no sound as your stock amp will not turn on.

So you need to run the "Remote Wire" which is blue on the harness, to the stock deck turn on lead.

Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Red/White

Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: GMLAN Serial Data

Car Radio Ground Wire: Black/White

Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Yellow

Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: Pink

Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray

Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green

Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow

Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

So Basically, you connect the blue and pink wire together, and tap into a 12+ accesory (sp) wire to power the stock amp, that's what i did with mine.

It sure will! As long as you get power to the stock amp, your sub will fire up (As it's wired into the stock amp)

 

exactly the stock amp powers all the speakers so u either get all or no sound really

lastly it might be a good idea to look into metra kit and harness. antenna adapter doesnt matter

 

I didn't hook up the pink wire and everything works just fine in my car. I have the pioneer system also. My new HU came with an amp wire to hook up to a stock amp so I guess that's y it works. It's a blue wire.

 

yup if u get the right harness then u dont have to worry abotu any of that you just install like normal other then the red acc which goes to the fusebox bypassing the stock wiring and your done

Cannonbalt did you just splice into the GMLAN Serial Data wire or did you remove it from the connector all together?

 

you shouldnt splice into it but you dont need to remove it either. just leave it unconnected (assuming you are using the normal harness not the module harness)

 

yeah I just bought the basic turbo wiring harness and just trying to figure out where to run the accessory wire without using the fuse box?

 

there is no where else to run it. I mean not easily... the gm lan is data not 12v acc so taping that would never get your radio to turn on (and opens a whole bunch of problems if you put power to it) You dont have to run it to the fuse box you can tap any 12v acc wire but you want to make sure its something like an accessory not main function of the car and that whatever you are tapping can handle the additional load unless you are wiring up a relay
