yes and yes, The stock speakers are 2 ohm I believe, so when going to 4 ohm they are a lot quieter, and the stock amp does power the sub too, so if you bypass it, you will lose the stock sub. (but you have new ones anyway)

Okay so how would I go about doing this, as I'm not sure what to do.

I have an aftermarket amp running my subs only (2 channel). And I want my aftermarket headunit (link) to power my aftermarket speakers (link and link) and factory tweeters.

I would run the speaker wires from the aftermarket head unit to the location where the stock amp should be, and then pull the stock amp and connect the coresponding wires from the stock harness (the ones going to the speakers) with the wires you ran from the new headunit. As far as the tweeters go....If you know what your doing (you would not have gotten the 2 way 6.5's) I would connect to the wires for the tweeter in the 6.5" speaker and run that to the stock ones. (preferable after the crossover in the speaker). Good luck.

when your talking about the speed cable (cat 5) do you mean ethernet cables, like for your computer.

lol, no. there is "speed cable" for car audio, basically 4/6/8/etc smaller (speaker) gauge wires all inside a larger cover that makes it easy to run in the car. Cat5 is a no-no for speaker wire.

ha ha...thats good to know. i did search it and found something interesting, but he ended up with like 15 wires for an single speaker connection. imagine a speed cable with 15 wires, all connected to the (pos or neg) on a speaker, and some other weird stuff like that.

btw...with headunit and aftermarket amp setup
-run rca's from headunit to aftermarket amp
-run a speed cable from aftermarket amp to factory amp connector and splice the wires
-run a remote wire to both headunit and aftermarket amp

by doing this. do you remove the need for the PAC audio connection, and therefor, resulting in the factory radio harness (that plugged into the factory radio) inoperable, and not needed.

Question... I have the module so I can keep onStar and retain the RAP feature and all that lovely stuff. Doing this isn't going to affect the module or ability to use onStar is it? Right now I have pioneer x910bt h/u, stock front speaks and tweets, pioneer aftermarket rear speaks I forgot the model #, (blew the stock rears) and stock sub. I just got a rockford fosgate sub and mono amp waiting to be installed. My plan is to reuse the stock sub enclosure and put the rockford sub in, and have it run off the rockford mono amp, and for now leave the interior speakers as is. Eventually i'll get rockford interior speaks and amp, but il worry about that when the time comes. So now how can I hook the sub and amp up without losing onstar, chimes, and RAP? I assume I need to do this stock amp by pass but I dont know if this is going to affect the module. I read of someone using a cheap small speaker for on star and chimes to play out so it doesnt interfear with the regular speakers. Is this what I need to do? If so how?

How many pre-outs does the factory HU have? I have an AudioControl Matrix 6ch line driver and DQXS Crossover/EQ so I can bi-amp the fronts.

If you bought the correct harnesses, then I think they offer "output" of Onstar to the Radio itself. (If not then my update for Onstar in my car will be a lot more fun) If it's to the radio (like a input on it,mine has a phone input) then you shouldn't have to worry about the stock amp. If it's the other way then maybe you'll have to wire it inline with the speaker outputs and run the speaker output to your Amp instead of RCA's. RAP should be taken care of at the Head unit.

The factory head unit in my 06 doesn't have any "pre-outs" it has regular speaker outputs, but they are very low power, and they run into the factory amp. (I am almost positive that the head unit only has 4 channels too) The amp does the "crossover" work, and has the seperate output for Front tweets, front door speakers, rear tweets and fulls, and sub.

in my 06's it was under the dash on the drivers side footwell, way up in back on the left. That silver thing on the back deck is a XM unit in my 06. (maybe Onstar is back there too)

How would one go about bypassing the amp. I already know the exact wires that need to be matched up, but I prefer not to cut the connectors off. I'm afraid that by doing so I will magically **** my car up, and end up with no sound.

So what would be the easiest option for me to go about doing this. Is their a wiring harness (male) that would clip into the amp connector 2 and 3 (from the first page of thread), basically like removing the male plug from the amp, or is there another way to tap a wire directly into the plugs without cutting anything off.

And finally, what size wire is currently being used on either of those plugs.

i want to keep the factory HU and amp for everything but the sub..ive got an aftermarket sub and amp and i'll be using the factory sub box jjust upgrading the sub.. all I would need to do is get a loc2 and tap into the rear deck speakers then run my rca's to the amp.. correct? or can I just cut and use the speaker wires going to the sub and wire them into the loc2? being the signal is already coming from the factory amp to the sub anyways, and I wouldn't have to mess with the 6X9's.. all input is greatly appreciated

dam i am doing my amp bypass and i cut the wires off the 2 connectors, just to realize that there are 2 tan wires on the one connector and i dont know which is which.. looks like i'll have to pull out my headunit and trace the wires back to the connections to there to check which is the positive for the left front speaker and which is the negative for the right rear speaker.. unless theres an easier way to check?

wait are you talking about from the HU to the amp? or amp to doors? there should be 2 sets of colors going to the doors due to woofer/tweerer ud have to test them with a battery (usually a 9v works best touch pos and neg to get the woofer to pop)

If you are talking about from the HU to the amp there shouldnt be 2 sets of wires with the same color but you can do the same thing there. put power on the HU side and test for power at the amp just be careful

see if this helps
