bad compacitor?

ok guys, i recently unhooked my sub/amp and compacitor and now i plugged it all abck in and the compacitor is not holding charge. i can charge it with a battery charger, it then starts to decline around 7.? Then it climbes back around 8.? then it goes off and shuts the amp off also. i have a pioneer head unit cd/dvd player touch screen, kicker 400 wat amp, DHD ntx-1.5fd compacitor and a kicker box with 2 10's. what could cause this? like isa id i just unplugged everything cause i was gonna remove to install my meth, but then i didnt have to remove. please i need some insight lol. thanks!
