a guy on the site did this AWHILE back i tried looking for it but couldn't find it... wat you need is a shallow sub. like the ones that people put under the seats in their trucks.

So the box is the limiting factor? I've been wanting to do this for a while with a better 10" shallow sub and a more powerful amp. I really like the stock enclosure because of it's size, out of the way clean look.

What about adding that "fill" that helps mimic a slightly larger volume? Does it only work on sealed enclosure or is it likely all hype?

it works on almost any enclosure. doesn't make a big difference but it does make a difference (and its cheap)

If you are going to change the Amp for it too, then you can go with a different 10" shallow mount sub, but using the stock amp with a aftermarket sub won't help a whole lot.

I have a Rockford Fosgate P3 shallow and am feeding it from a external amp (about 300 RMS) and it is a big upgrade over stock.
