so long as the pins match up, and the it can still interface the gm vin updating deal within the deck, i don't see why i swap of that stock deck wouldn't work.

was the very thing i had originally looked at doing prior to saying **** it and pwning 98% carpc status hahaha. :-P even if it doesn't, some folks these days still know how to make circuits and stuff to correct the timings and offsets of the data for data to pass proper.

honestly, unless your getting that deck for under 100 bucks and already know the layouts gonna be right. if your paying 600+ for it u'd be better off doing a cheaper mini-itx/matx carpc setup. then you'd have a setup for today and the expandability for tomorrow. all with the power and development capacity of the largest modification community(software) at your disposal.

I mean if you want something that has a true factory look, then you might want to check out the Rosen units. Not sure if they have them for the Cobalt, but I did a couple in some Acadias and they were pretty nice units. Retained all OEM functions: rear seat entertainment, factory amps, steering wheel controls, xm,etc. A bit pricey though and the few I have done had no RCA preouts which may not matter to you but to me it's a big thing.

Your best bet is an aftermarket unit. Just get a very conservative one. I doubt any of the ones from the Corvette or Cadillac models will fit without major modification.

I doubt very much they would interface at all. As far as I know you can't swap radios from other models into a different model.

well assuming the computer nonsense works you have to also take in to account the actual shape of the radio

which is typically double din in the case of their stock nav decks......

honestly i remembered reading, if u got a unit from ebay which was from korea, china, europe, and it came from a vehicle with the same ecm, u could get it to work.
