Go with the premium sound?

okay guys im really looking into getting a cobalt.. should i go with the premium sound that they offer? I think theirs with the mp3 cd is 300$.. or should i soak about another 200 - 250 $ and get something a little better or is the premium system they offer a good bang for you buck?

thanks joe

i got the premium stereo option and am very pleased with it. really decent sound and above average quality. it won't blow your ear drums but it does sound nice and clean. i really like the tweeters on the door and the 10" sub in the trunk. the only problem i have with it is this wierd hissing static noise with the volume down(only when playing cd's/mp3's). of course i'm not really into "bumpin my ****" all loud so people in the next zip code can sing along, i mean it'd be cool if could and i had the power, but i'm satisfied with what this stereo can put out, which isn't bad at all. it could get pretty loud.

The Pioneer system is good enough for me. I'd get it. But I'm an engine guy, so sound isn't top priority for me. But the little rap i listen to sounds good with the 10" sub

the premium setup is great!! they really put together a nice package of speakers and the MP3/CD player... it's not a very adjustable system, but it sounds good!

The ghetto thing about the system is that it's only single CD Not even an option to have multi-disk.

The Pioneer system is one of the better stock systems I've heard, but it's still lacking in my opinion. I had a Z24 and one of the only things I did with it was put some infinity reference series plate speakers in the front and pioneer aftermarkets in the back and the sound is more crisp and clear than the stock pioneer system in the SS. I'm content with the sub since I never cared about rattling my windows with bass, but it's lacking in the high end a little bit.

Someone on here mentioned the door speakers were paper cones, but I haven't looked at them myself yet. Soon as I get some money, I plan on replacing them.

It's probably still worth getting the upgrade even if you will replace them because the wiring is already in place for a sub and tweeters on the top of the door.

Why would the door speakers have paper cones? None of the other ones are.

By adjustability I assume they mean Sub controls and more than Bass/Treble adjustment. The only thing it needs IMO is Mid adjustment.

I don't know. It's somewhere in this forum. I was surprised to hear that as well. I'm too lazy to go searching for it now though. Can somebody confirm the door speakers are NOT paper cones?

I think the stereo could use an independent subwoofer control. I don't like it being tied into the rear speakers. Moving the soundstage to front or back shouldn't mess with your subwoofer volume.

Yeah... I was talking about having actuall subwoofer controls, like if you want to turn the sub down or up you should be able to w/o messing with the other speakers! Plus some mid level control would be nice! HOWEVER, i think for a stock setup it is a really nice system!
