Help Please! - Stereo Replacement Electrical Gremlin
Hello, some of you might remember me from back in the day.
I'm having a strange electrical issue with the new headunit I just installed. I had an AVIC-D2, that was stolen last month, and have just finished installing my new AVIC-Z140 replacement. I have an 06 SS/SC withe the upgraded pioneer system, and am retaining the stock amp/subs. All of my stock harnesses were cut off, so I hardwired in the new headunit.
*While the key is in the ACC position, everything is kosher, all channels on the stock amp are working proper and the sub as well. However, when I start the car, things go to hell, my rear channels distort, and the sub sounds like absolute ****.
I am pulling my 12V RAP ACC from the fuse panel, just as before. I have even added an additional ground, thinking possibly that I wasn't getting a clean ground from the stock harness anymore. I even tried pulling my 12V ACC directly from the ignition, and the issue remains.
If anybody has any ideas here, I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks in advance.

I'd say goto a wrecker, cut out the end of the harness, fix urs, then get a proper kit and after market harness that will properly plug into ur fixed harness, and see what that do. Other than that idk. Why didn't the jackasses just unplug em when they stole it.

The only other thing hooked up behind my dash is the pac steering wheel control interface.

And tell me about it, the ******* even cut my antenna wire and backup camera feed, didn't even try to unplug anything.
If I can't sort this out soon, I'll go that route, but logically there's nothing those harnesses do that I can't with solder right?

So other than speaker wires, acc, 12v, ground, I have the pac unit wired to the steering wheel control wire (controls working) the black/white wire to acc (per pac instructions) and the blue remote lead from my stereo to the pink wire to turn on the stock amp.

hardwiring vs having the stock "harness" is realistically the same. I was thinking a sorta hail mary that either something was connected to the GM lan wire that could be pissing off the stock amp or possibly too much voltage because a high volume level. but those are pretty slim.
the only other thing i can think of is your stock amp is fried

Yeah, I have the GM lan wire terminated and tucked away, it isn't hooked up. I'm at the hail Mary stage here, lol. Grasping at straws also, thinking the battery could be my weak link. I guess the amp could be fried, but it's so weird that it works fine in the acc position. I'm at a loss.
Worst case if I can't figure it out I guess I go aftermarket amp. My Polk speakers would probably appreciate it. And it would give me a reason to upgrade the sub.

Stock speakers for your model should be 2 ohm, not 4 like the aftermarket. I doubt that would have any negative effects on the amp though. I doubt it would be the battery being an issue also. I honestly don't know what to tell you other than thinking it to be a wiring issue. Have you DDM'd your power to see the voltage difference between accessory and run? IDK, I have a volt meter and sometimes it can read as high as 15.4 when the car is running and my subs are off(amp wired to switch)

There was something wrong with the stock amp. I bypassed it, ran my speakers directly off the head unit, and everything sounds great. So now I just need to address the subwoofer, and I'm golden.
Thanks for the help all.
