Installing an avic d3 into 2006 SS... VSS?
I'm waiting on my harness, but I was curious as to the VSS wire tap for the nav... I've read a bunch of threads on here but haven't been able to really hammer out a good conclusion. Do I need to tap this wire on my year of cobalt and if so, where the hell is it?
VSS is a pointless feature, all it does is help the unit recover your location if you lose gps signal. On the older units it would provide a bunch of info like speed, rpm, so on and so forth. That's why you don't see them on newer Pioneers, no need for them. I'm not sure where the wire is but you can save yourself the trouble and just cap it off.

lol the radio wouldnt display them but take that information and use it for a more accurate navigation. if something happens and the gps looses signal for a bit or is getting crap for signal the radio would already know where its at (ok i was at point a when i last got gps info and the cars going 20mph so the car is now here) instead of being all confused.
im not an expert on navigation at all because few people get or need it in a tiny ass town. Ive hooked up vss before after having to "find" it and iv not hooked it up before as well. So what i would do in your position is try it without the vss and see what happens. if it works and it accurate then done no worries. but if its off then finding and hooking up the vss might be a good idea. Overall it isnt a necessity and its not like the nav wont work without it but that doesnt mean the nav will be accurate... the only way to know is to try it
