I happened to have gotten a email about that very thing the other day, I'm going to be installing a Double Din, but I still want my Onstar, They said that the Onstar part and harness can be unscrewed from the front plate and then I can shove the unit back there somewhere and use the Double Din Metra kit. Do you think that is possible with that kit? Does it also keep RAP?

Thanks

Just so everyone knows. It took FOREVER to find this part. It is a METRA item but it all depends on who you talk to as to wether or not u will find it. I had future shop calling Metra, BestKits, everyone trying to find out if u can retain onstar. Almost everyone gave them a different answer, "no it cant be done," "yes but u have to relocate factory deck","you have to make ur own harness and install a speaker for the Onstar"...basically nobody knew...However then we found this. 220 plus tax. Pretty penny but its more for the safety features of the onstar.

what the hell...this is one of the craziest things i have ever seen. u dont loose the DIC when u swap a new deck..u will always loose the onstar because it can only tie into the factory HU. there are really no wire harness kits for this purpose...it is usually this harness that will work (GMOS04). it could be this one..depending on the car with onstar..i know another brand makes the harness..search google or something.

There is no harness with the cobalts...it will only work with this one part to keep the onstar. Trust me...i had the shop callin Metra, everywhere. Only other way is to make ur own harness and relocate the factory deck. This is not the GMOSO4, that would not work with it.

I'm with Pat on this, I've been looking for about 2 years now, the above kit with the DIC in it is the ONLY Kit I have ever found that will allow you to retain Onstar with an Aftermarket Deck In a Cobalt. (you can have a speaciaty harness made though) As I stated, I am putting in a Double DIN Nav unit and want to retain my onstar, and I am going to have to buy this kit and do some hacking and moving of pieces to it....

Good luck all.

Basically yes...when i hit my onstar button the screen then becomes my onstar pretty much...like i hit the blue phone on my mirror and the new DIC says "Onstar On" when the biatch says "onstar ready"...pretty neat. I call it my PIC, Passenger Information Center....Also they both work in sync with each other, so it doesnt matter which buttons i press they both light up the same thing
