I have always done the black friday sales at Best Buy but this year I also did Circuit City. I was able to just order all the specials online and pick the items up in the store. I decided to get the sony explode package which contained 2 12" Sony Explode 1000s in a box and a 800 watt amp for $180 which is about half of the retail price.

I used the online fitment guide to make sure the box would fit in my car and it said yes. I got to circuit city to pick it up and found out the packaging around the sub box made the box enormous; it wouldn't fit threw the door of the car. I was like ok no prob, I will just go get my friends truck and come back.

Got the truck and loaded it up and went back home to start the install. I tried the truck opening but that was not going to happen. I then folded down the back seats. That didnt work either. I then tried to remove the lower part of the back seat and fold the top part down, no luck with that either. I ended up having to take the entire back seat out along with the trunk mat to get it to fit.

I got a new wiring kit which came with a .5 farad cap and all the wiring and wired her up. It sounds amazing but I can not turn the amp up at all. The .5 farad cap is not large enough for the 800 watt amp so I am going to have to use if for my interior speakers. If I turned the amp up it was drawing so much power that my car was about to stall out lol.

 

Looks like a nice setup. Great work.

Only concern I would have is they filed chapter 11 and if anything goes wrong for warranty work they might not be around...

 

Thus why i didnt get any store warranty. The system itself has a 1 yr manufacture warranty thus if anything goes wrong I can just call Sony.

Nice man...I work at CC actually...that package was an awesome deal and trust me, it hits hard. Personally I prefer Kicker/MTX but for the price, that's unbeatable.

BTW...the government requires that companies who offer insurance/warranties have a third party backed company in case they go under, so you would've been okay if you got it.

 

that caps probably doing more damamge then anything else. it should be right by the amp and never at 11.9v even with the car off. if thats with the car on theres probably something wrong with your install

 

The 11.9 was showing with the car off. It varies from 11.9 to 12.3 with the car off. With the car on it reaches around 14.5

 

yup ur cap should be as close as possible to ur amp, mine is actually like 2 inches away lol.

nice setup but talk about a loss of trunk room.

 

im drawing 2.5 times that power on a stock battery and alt w/ no cap. and with much better subs and my lights only dim. I dont think your cars stalling out from that.

and my friend bought that set up to without the amp from CCITY and he couldnt get them to fit in at all.

I had to put 10's in my car cause I woudlnt be able to get 12's because they were to tall and I wanted a ported box.


EDIT: AHH WTF, the pictures didnt load for me the 1st time, how the **** did you get 12's!!!!! i tried sooooo hard to get them in mine and had to return them for 10's!!
