You hush, you are the reason I am blocking off the trunk and throwing the box in the back seat anyways. How long ago did I start that thread on ROE? And I have yet to put a cut into wood. First time was too little port, second time too much net displacement, third time(in the sketch up model above) I haven't found a problem yet but probably will within the next day or two. Thinking about keeping the port and making the box 1" less deep, shows more cone control in winisd at the sacrifice of peak output... Although am also waiting on the new Sundown X-8's but IDK if the magnets on those would clear the port... So many factors...

How about you give me your alt for some motivation to get this done?

Man I still don't see how you do it. I ran sealed for a little while but the output difference with my Skars is night and day. The MA Audio's didn't seem to change much but now the Skars kill it in that leaky ported box. Although in your setup you don't really have room for the port you need to gain the efficiency a port is designed for do you?

Ya i know what you mean and as an installer all we did was ported. all the time. But sealed sounds so much better and so much cleaner. With the 15s on gobs of power in most cases its more output than i need so it was really a no brainer. We initally did the box as big as would fit in the contraints i wanted and depending on how much net volume i had i would see about going ported (I wanted to use 6" areo ports thru the rear deck) and it ended up being a little smaller then optimal for ported but still possible. It is bigger than optimal for sealed but still ok.

With my setup its so clean and low. It would be hard as hell for me to go back

I am getting ready to put in my 15 inch dc audio xl. Powered by a soundqubed 2200. Building a box to sit in the rear seat area, seats are out, will be seal off from the trunk. Should sound pretty good.

Originally I wanted to do a Dual chamber Bass reflex but realized it would take almost 7 cubes gross for 3 8's so I decided on just ported. These woofers and the x-8's I hope to get here soon don't like sealed or 4th's but love just about every other box.

ya 4th or 6th order bandpass are giant for what they are. honestly though you lose alot of SQ for the push in SPL. considering you can build a decent ported box way easier it makes it hard to justify the bandpass

Why? Your setup was inspiring! Although for the right price I will definitely take the alt off your hands.

Now you are going to make me wanna go bigger and more power... Damn you! lol.

Back tracked and looked at 07black's build. Pretty much what I am doing except my box is only going to be 3.5ft^3 net and tuned to 34 hz. I will be able to pull the box and amp out of the car as one for the weekends we are going to do some pulls.

Yeah, my current design is 3cf @ 30 htz but I will probably change it soon. I am so indecisive.

not sure why you all like these giant boxes. with the right sub a 1.2 cuft box with a 3.5"x11" port will fit in the corner of a trunk and allow you to run a serious 10" subwoofer that would put most dual 12" sealed subs to shame. And with only 500 watts.

Thanks a lot. You are correct about the wood lol. It's from an old wood trunk that was getting turned into fire wood haha.

BTW, I am not crap talking just saying that bigger is not always necessary, I would ask what my customers wanted then steer them in the right direction and almost always it would be for light weight smaller boxes and 10's. It saves money and todays tech with tripple shorting rings, and computer aided sub design you dont need a 15 to make noise. Just a good ported box and some subs with great xmax/xmec. I understand ever one likes to show off their stuff and big usally shows better but just chiming in cause I love this stuff as much as you all do. I have been installing for 15 years and have had my own business for 2 years or so now. I have done many different cars but after most hear my main two brands they dont really go for bigger, they go for 10's and spend more on the sub instead of inexpensive 15's. I carry RE Audio, Image Dynamics, and whatever my wholesaler gives me good deals on occasionally.

here is my camaro install.

here is my toyota install.
