Pioneer system in a 07 or lower cobalt

For cobalt owners that have the AC delco stereo instead of the pioneer accroding to GM you cant get the pioneer system installed.

Is this true? Wouldnt u just have to buy the pioneer head unit?

You would need the amp the Pioneer system comes with, the tweeters, the sub, extra wiring, and of course the upgraded front and rear speakers. Just getting the headunit won't work (well).

the radio itself is the same either way, truth be told, if you want better sound, get some bbetter speakers, and it'll sound pretty good.

The radios between a lower model Cobalt and one with the Pioneer system are not the same. The base units will amplify their speaker signals on their own, the Pioneer units don't because there's an external amp used to power the speakers and the sub.

I want to add the Pioneer sub and amp but not upgrade the other speakers. What do I need and what will I have to do to get it to work?

^^ Cheaper and easier to go aftermarket.

The GM dealership told you it can't be done because the HU are VIN specific.
That means they are regesitered to the VIN of the car they came with, won't work in other cars.
The only way to do it is to have a GM teck reflash it, but even then its not 100%.
Only one oerson I know of who pulled it off, but he knew a guy who knew a guy who was Einstien with a GM reflash tool. Took alot of playing around and alot of mistakes before it was done right.

Besides all that the way that a SS or SS/SC are wired (whole car) are alot different than the lower models. Anything 07 and up gets even more complicated.

For the price your going to pay for the upgraded system your better off going aftermarket, and its not the parts I'm talking about its the labour involved to get the job done.
