Go to radio shack and buy a 1.5k ohm resister.Your gonna need it for the door locks to work. You need the resistor cause the car only has 1 wire that controls the lock and unlocking of the doors.
the installer should have some right???

What year is your car? That document applies to 04 saturn ion.Tell him to get a bypass kit for your car instead of cutting wires and adding diodes and resistors. The bypass kit that i told you to get on the first page is the one you need.He woulda had it done in 5-10 minutes.

update on teh remote start----the installer had to go out town for a fam. emergancy. said hes flying back in tomorrow and will finish it then.

anyone know if compustar is a good brand???? no malfunctions in the alarm or remote start? cause i know our cars have a passlock or something like that and if it malfunctions then the whole car will be fucked.

Well guys, I am a gm automotive technician for a chevy dealer way up in northern canada, next door to alaska. I install remote starters for our company amongst other things. I have installed 4 cobalt remote starters including my own ss/sc and have a 50% success rate. For some reason the low end remote starts are burning up and causing weird concerns. I am using an fm style ultrstart with awesome range and the other sucess is a pro start fm style from canadian tire(el cheapo). So far the onlt 2 that work are the fm brands. I have been in major discussions with our tech support and have had no luck fixing the other 2. The cobalts use a passkey 3 system, where they have a transponder key, you put the key in the box and the loop around the ignition cylinder and that is half, the other half is the passlock 2 system that has been around forever, it also needs bypassing. You have to do both to make it start. Then there is the content theft that is only disabled with the factory remote. There is another box available where you take the factory keyfob and solder onto the circuit board and wire this to the remote start doorlocks and trunk control wires. myself along with the tech support guys are stumped why the 2 (black sheep) remote starts will not work, all4 are installed identical with identical components, all grounded the same with the same power sources. We have gone to the point of isolating everything with diodes and gone as far as installing extra relays to take some of the load away from the relays inside the remote start. Yet they remain problematic. So what I am getting at is good luck and take it to a pro! I ahve installed thousands of chevy remote starts and a few hundred other brand autos and have never ever run into a problem like this. Bypass kit dot com http://www.bypasskit.com/ is a goodplace to find bypasses for any brand auto.

Well, I thought I'd post this up.
I'm not installing a remote start, only a Compustar FM 2way alarm. But I bought the idatalink i was talking about earlier. I ended up buying it for $0.11 (i'm serious), with $15 shipping!

The ADS-DL is a GM bypass module, as well as a doorlock interface. Don't get the ADS-TB, it won't unlock the doors!

Here is iDatalink's website. Check compatibility on here before buying anything!
http://www.idatalink.ca/

And here is the search link for Ebay.
http://search.ebay.com/search/search...ink&category0=

Now, the problem is that you need the ~$80 weblink to access the module. Luckily I got a hold of one!
I should have my alarm in next week. I'll try to remember to post pics... maybe do a how to!

You dont need those bypass with the doorlock interfaces and ****.Just get this, and your done. Its only 20 bucks.

Just put a spare key in it,and call it a day.Its a universal transponder bypass kit.

These systems are not worth the cost savings. When you use these, you are effectively disabling the factory built in theft support. With this, a thief can come along and pop the key tumbler and just start the car.
Get a CAN interface module, not only is it much better, it makes installation a breeze. They interface directly with the computer and your alarm wires to it instead of going directly to the cars wires. Saves time, looks better, and is alot safer. idatalink is a good example of a CAN bus interface module.

As for the starter only working sometimes, I have no idea where the problem would be since I dont know how the installer installed it. The ignition in these cars is different then most, as the computer starts the car and not you when you turn the key. You will have to take it back to who ever installed it and ask them, most of us here cant help because there is so much that could be going wrong or setup wrong and we don't know the details of how it was installed.
