replacing stock sub

replacing stock sub

im thinking about replacing the stock sub with this http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=18331 i could just take the old on out and bolt this right in correct? or is the box not big enough...and was also thinking about throwing in a small amp to get it a little more juice...does anyone forsee any big problems i might have occur during this?

you will have to get a new amp to power the sub, the stock amp won't have enough juice. Also, if you buy a new amp and want to retain the stock deck, you have to get one of those preout maker dealies that hooks into your back speakers giving you a sub rca output. for the fitment, that sub is 6.1" deep and the stock box is 4". you have to make a 2" spacer and plug the unused hole in the back of the box. SO, this might discourage you, but i have done it:

it's called a line out converter, and if you wire it right you can just splice it into the plug that is on top of the sub box, it's what i did.

Technically it is called an impedance adapter and it converts/adapts the low-z (4Ω) car stereo amps output to a high-z (47,000Ω) line level input. They are not the best solution in terms of sound quality but if you want to retain the stock head it's about the only choice. Some amps (mostly lower end) have low-z inputs that do not require seperate impedance adapters...
