smart or dumb idea?
im always hitting parking blocks, sidewalks, curbs, whatever with the front bumper when i go to park. yes i try not to pull up that far but sometimes i cant tell. here is my idea... in dash video... with a backup camera mounted in the lower ss/tc grill so i know when to stop. what do you guys think?
I was doing that a lot when I first got my car, then I started backing into parking spots. You got more clearance in the rear, lol. I'd be interested in seeing this tho...
If you mount it in the right location you may not have to clean the bugs off of it. If you mounted it higher (possibly to the steel bumper) and angle it down, you might be able to keep it out of sight and be able to see the parking block before you hit it.
i dont need glasses lol last time i checked i was 20/15, but im short. with the lt bumper i never had this issue but now i have the ss bumper and im always hitting it. i dont think the camera would be noticeable on the bottom behind the grill. but i do wonder bout the bugs and rocks. i cand mount it on the bar bc thats where my fmic will be. unless i fab up a little bracket that sticks out for it
Sounds like an overly complicated solution for a simple problem.
What I do is gauge my distance with the base of the mirror on the door - when I can just see the curb / parking block under the mirror, I'm close enough
YMMV, you will have to adjust for your height / driving position.

Mad easy. Most of those cameras made for cars have rca connections. You buy a dvd/navigation/tv headunit that has video input, which are rca connectors, and there you go. Ground out the parking brake wire so you can view dvds while you're driving (some head units aren't that simple to bypass the parking brake sensor), switch to video mode and you're done......
BUT....honestly....I think you just need the driver mod. If you're "always hitting blocks, sidewalks, curbs, whatever", what does that tell you about your driving? Sorry....I don't ever remember hitting a curb with my cobalt. Only scratches I had on the wheels were when I had to change my tires and the low profile tires were kicking my ass on an old tire machine.
