its a pain in the ass and everyone that has done it said it really not worth it, but there are a very few that have done it. Its easier to just throw in a good aftermarket stereo

there is a kit you can buy that will let you use your steering wheel controls... i'm not positive where you can find it. Do a search and check out the audio and electronics section to try and find more info on that

On ebay do a search on steering wheel control and you can use this link to one of them.

With that kit for the steering wheel controls once you install it you have to program the buttons. there's a little IR eye you have to point at the radio as well. They work good though! I just wanted to let you know what you were gettin into.

On another note...swapping for a radio out of a newer SS/SC would be a pain in the ass. You'd have to rewire your wiring harness, take it to a dealership and get them to reprogram it with a Tech II (there are three ways to program the radio and they have to play with it until one of the three ways works so you'll be there for like 3 or 4 hours while they **** with it and at like $90 an hour it gets expensive really quick), and to top it all off the steering wheel controls are all fucked up and don't work correctly ( like the mute button switches from radio to CD and the preset button mutes the radio or some combination of that). It's really really not worth it...

no there's a bunch of wires that go from the steering wheel controls to the radio and since your new radio doesn't have that plug in the back those are available for you to plug that unit right into it and program it to work the way you'd like...takes about an hour at most...

What are you looking to do with it? Double or single din? Any functions you know you need to have besides the iPod jack? how much are you lookin' to spend?

Clarion still makes decent head units and from the sound of things he's not doing any kinda major competitions or anything like that. I wasn't saying one was better than the other I was just saying that for what he's lookin for all of those brands should be sufficient...
