USB/Bluetooth radio install
USB/Bluetooth radio install
I searched and couldn't find a thread that really fits my situation, so I apologize if this has been answered already.
I bought a brand new stock USB/Bluetooth radio to replace the stock Bluetooth/non-USB in my 09 SS. The physical install is no problem, but do I need to take it to GM after it's installed to make it work? The threads I saw involved a used radio, so I wasn't sure if the radio will be locked or what. Thanks!

if u install the stock usb/bt unit, or any other stock unit compatible, you'll need to have the dealer go in and change the vin associated with the deck to your vin.
it's pretty fucked, only takes a few minutes yet the dealer tried to charge my mom 80 bucks just to do do the vin adjustment.

Figured I'd follow up on this. I decided to go ahead and try to put this in and see what happened. Figured the worst I'd lose is twenty minutes of time. To my surprise, everything worked right away, even Bluetooth, with no programming required. I'm guessing that, since the radio had not been previously installed in another vehicle, such programming was unnecessary. I dunno . . . but I'm not complaining
So, if any of you ever stumble across this situation, now you know. I wasn't really keen on paying GM for an hour's worth of labor for something that probably takes ten minutes.
I also had a hell of time just finding a part number for the radio. The one I got is 20789372. As kind of an interesting sidenote, I had emailed a company that specializes in GM/Delco radios to see if they had the radio, or a part number. They claim that this radio is only available as a theft replacement and the only way to order it is through GM. I thought that was strange, but that might explain why I had such a hard time finding one.

Vehicle Communication Interface Module(VCIM) that has the on-star unit.
For the cars that didn't have bluetooth, you have to replace the VCIM with one that has a bluetooth antennae.
