USB Input with External HD
USB Input with External HD
Alright guys, I've searched and searched believe me. I've found a few threads regarding this, and I've learned the drive needs to be formatted to FAT or FAT32, depending on who is doing the talking. I've got a seagate 320gb external HD I bought specifically for the purpose of keeping my 70-some gigs of music with me.
I've tried FAT and FAT32 formats, and my music WILL NOT LOAD. The radio keeps saying that there are no .mp3 or .wma files on the drive. That's BS, because there are over 9 thousand .mp3 files for the radio to dwell on.
Does anyone have any ideas here? I've tried 4 different HDs already, bought and returned ranging from 120 gb to 500 gb and from western digital to seagate. None of them work, in their orignal NTFS format, or the reformatted FAT32.
HELP!!!!

you arent the only one whos been trying this since 2007 it wont read. all you can do is buy a data stick and store music on it and play it that way. HD's wont work you can get pretty big data sticks tho.

and a few others I found. So who has their external HD working and how?
As for the power issue, a few people said they needed external power sources, but others said that as long as your harddrive spins at 5600 RPM instead of 7200, it would work. Therefore, I bought a 5600 RPM hard drive. It's spinning up as well, I can hear it and feel it. The radio just won't read.
Also, the radio is capable of reading files AND opening folders. That shouldn't be the problem either.
Anyone else got ideas?
First question.....are the music files in a folder or are they on the root of the hard drive? I say this because of the way some H/Us react to different external sources. For instance, before I rooted my MyTouch3g, my h/u read folders like no problem, after I rooted it and changed it to a "hacked" O/S it wants the files on the root of the hard drive. Also, what H/U do you have? If it's running on windows CE recognizing a 320 gig drive is going to be a problem. When XP first came out I believe it wasn't recognizing anything over 120 gb and would **** bricks when you dropped a 160 in it.
