Get yourself some Alpine Type-R or Memphis M-Class. For better low end response, JL Audio TRs are the way to go. Of course, for the money you can't beat a Kicker DS.

Whats your price range ?
italstalnprd86's idea of going with 6.5s is good. They just flat out sound better. Lots more options too.

I have all MB Quarts. DKE 169 for the 6x9's and PCE 216 for the 6.5's. As well as a Rockford Fosgate P4004 amp, Rockford wiring and a pimp ass Pioneer Premier cd/mp3 (DEH-P77OMP) deck. Dynomatted trunk and doors as well, and I drilled holes to put my tweeters in the spacers where the SS's have them on the doors.

My system is totally sick, the Quarts don't have as much bass as the stock speakers, but they have insane high's and mid's. If you're looking for quality sound instead of bass, they're the best...hand made in Germany.

I can't wait until I get some subs, probably gonna go with some Quarts for them as well. I've had Pioneer speakers in the past, but i'm sticking with Quarts from now on!

MB Quart is not the best. Don't listen to him please. For the money you pay, they are definitely not worth it. I sold MB Quart for a while. Trust me kid...I do this for a living.

Personally i have had type r 6x9's, in my old car the cavalier, and they just dont sound as good as a good set of 6.5's... they dont need to be for bass obviously, mine are cut off at 200hz, so they produce only mid-bass and trebles...... very nice setup that i have i think.....

What do you think is the best ?
Dont get me wrong... I totally agree with you. MBQ is defintely not the best.
10 yrs ago ? Ok... Maybe...

I listened to a set of QSD216s and they were decent. Nothing stood out about them that was exceptional though. For $600-$800/pair something should be exceptional.. whether it be the mid bass... tweeters... looks.... SOMETHING.

From what I've heard lately I think Dynaudio and DLS are about as good as it gets.
There is obviously many diff speakers that are close... just my personal opinion.

Ehh...I still would put a set of Focals against anything you can throw out there. Hell the JL ZR is a better system than some out there costing twice as much.

As far as Kicker goes...I have the RS652 in the front of my RedLine off a JL 300/2.....AMAZING. The sounded better than the JL XRs I had in there and at like half the price. I can experiment like the because I run an audio shop with these products. I've only ever heard 1 FI status, no one wants to pay for that stuff. It's damn expensive. And yes I agree, Alpine has some of the best speakers out. Headunits.....BLOW!

Ya the Focals are pretty bad ass. My buddy has Utopias in his S4. They sound really good.
They are right there with the DLS and Dynas... maybe even better.
I personally think the tweeters are too harsh. Im sure you could tune most of it out.... maybe its just the couple of times I've heard them (Focals) they aren't set up right.

The JLs... I heard those when I heard the MBQs... I thought they were similar. The JLs midbass definitely being superior. I think they lack that real "richness" to the sound that some of the real high end stuff has. Just my opinion though..... Everybody has diff tastes thats for sure.

i beg to differ on the headunits, alpine has been nothing but an innovator, i have had 3 decks now, and i am looking to get a new one.... all 3 so far have been alpine, they have the most features, mine has tilt face, remote, basslink, 512 different colors, an amazing eq., time correction, bass focus, and all the new decks come with a one wire ipod setup. i am looking at the alpine iva d310, and for the money, it is an amazing unit

I would just get 6.5 components in the rear. Way better. 6x9's are an akward shape.

I will more than likely be doing a full Boston Acoustics system or a Top of the line Alpine setup.
