won't play mp3s

I have a 2006 cobalt lt... recently I burned a disc with a bunch of mp3s, the unit won't play them... but I was sure that the stock headunit could handle mp3 cds, or is it just me?

p.s. the unit works great when I burn a cd as an audio cd instead of just a data cd with mp3s on it.

It doesn't like it when you burn it as a data CD. Nero has an option called "Make MP3 CD" with a music note icon on it. I use that and no problems ever.

Be sure that you CLOSED the CD when you were done burning it. Are you able to play the CD in any other players?

Are the files in folders or are they all in 1 root directory?

Well, uh, which headunit did you get? Not all headunits play mp3 CDs. I don't know how it is on the 2.2s but on the 2.0s the headunit says mp3 on the face if it plays mp3s.

I havent tested it on this unit....but closing the CD usually only applys to CDs burnt as CD audio....not MP3....

I would think the problem would be burning it as a data cd...instead of using a program like nero, that keeps things nice and simple for you.

It also depends where you get the MP3's from. Certain downloadable music, i.e. MSN music, is licensed to only play in MP3 form on registered players. Like the computer you downloaded from. If you burn certain protected MP3's on a disc, they won't play in your car. I found that out the hard way. Where do you get your music from?

I ran into a problem with mine. I put something like 150 files on the CD. and what happened is I believe the memory wasn't enough to handle the CD. it plays the songs, but then some of them slow down and skip if it has been playing straight through for a while. if i take it out and go right to the song it plays fine. Never thought I would say this but I dont think my car has enough RAM.

I think I am going to try and make teh CD again only this time I am going to make subfolers and directories to break up the data so its not just one huge cluster **** of sound

I tried the "Make MP3 Cd" in nero, and it didn't work... I have the stock headunit in a cobalt LT with the upgraded 7 speaker 1 sub pioneer system.

If I put in a mp3 disc it pops it out sayin "Check Disc"

you have the same system i do. it def plays MP3's maybe you need to close the disk. or maybe its just a bad disk. thats possible too because I have the 06 LT with 7 speaker system and right on the deck it says MP3

works for me. i have made TONS of mp3 data cd's with tons of songs on it and it works perfect for me. plays without skips, lag, or any of that. make sure you can play the cd on another mp3 player, maybe your drive is screwed up or your program is making it wrong.

There's not supposed to be a sticker for XM radio, only for MP3. It's not the greatest picture resolution but this is what you're looking for:

I'm not sure if this applies to the previous years since my car is an 07, but I seem to remember when I was selecting my options that there was an option to have the Pioneer system with the MP3 player and one without it, but like I said, not 100% sure on that. I know mine plays MP3 CDs just fine, and I use Nero and I have never once used a "Make MP3 CD" option. I always burn as a data CD because that's all it really is. Depending where you are located, we could possibly meet up somewhere and I can try your CD in my car to see if the CD works or not. If the CD works then we'll know for sure that your deck isn't the MP3 one.

You know, it was funny at first. But later that day I got to thinking. Went out to Best Buy and picked up an upgraded graphics card for my headlights. Much better now!
