Unhappy Some Bad news!

Ok. So, on the 15th of this month I was in Albuquerque driving down a three lane road doing about 35 and got in an accident. well I was in the left lane and out of the median a car comes into my lane and stopped. I guess she didnt see me and when she finally did she panicked and just froze. Well I swerved into the other lane and almost hit another car. I then swerved back into my lane and struck a stopped vehicle that was just sitting there talking to another guy in another vehicle. The airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt didnt lock up. I hit my head on the steering wheel and got a concussion, and have severe whiplash, my girlfirend had bruises on her arm and a bruised bone. I been out of work for two weeks now and finally getting over the soreness and the headaches. Insurance said the car is repairable and will be fixed at a cost of $9,547.21.

glad to hear you're ok... you should sue because the seatbelt didn't work and the airbag didn't go off... those are there to prevent your head hitting the windshield!

I agree. The seatbelts should have worked and/or the airbags should have gone off. Obviously you were going fast enough if you caused almost $10,000 of damage and hurt yourself as bad as you did.

Its better that the air bags didn't go off, if they would have went off with out the seatbelt activating he would be in much worse shape.

she probably got away... just like the ass that stopped infront of me to turn the wrong way down a one-way street... caused me to get rear ended... then took off.

I hate idiot drivers...

if the impact is not exactly centered in the front of the vehicle, the airbags will not blow. and because of the airbags not blowing...your seatbelt tentioners will not deploy. in order for the tentioners to deploy the airbag sensor must sense an impact of 26 mph or more and must be centered.

sorry to here about the accident. hope you guys are doing better

what happened to the offset crash testing? aren't the airbag sensors in the corners, not just the middle?

My seat belt tightens any time I press on the brakes with a decent amount of force... not slam them on... but just press them as to stop normally... try leaning forward the next time you are stopping at a light... see what happens...

Seat belts activate by a force when you speed up or slow down due to a mechanism that locks it when there is enough force to do so. I believe its like a hanging weight and once the weigh is pulled one way so much it locks it up.

I have a paper sitting somewhere about how the cobalts have a different seat belt locking system than the other GM cars and it only activates in between a certain g-force range.

Typical American SUE SUE SUE bs. Airbags don't always go off and there's a damn good reason. If you aren't going fast enough an airbag can injur you way more then the impact.

Cut the SUE bullshit, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I doubt your safety equipment was faulty, more likely it was your driving position.

Sorry to hear you got in the accident, just hope you don't jump on the SUE band wagon.

Wow

Sorry to hear about the accident.. but it was my understanding that airbags deployed based on acceleramators(Sp?)...

You probaly weren't going fast enough to set them off.. also, if the guy infront was rolling at all or got oiff the brake when he saw you at the last second.. you didn't hit him with the same level of force.

If someone is going 80, and your going 81.. and you hit the person in front, the damage is not *anywhere* near as severe if you hit them going 120.

As such, if hes going even 4-5mph.. its diffrent.

Besides, sometimes the machines actually do the right thing.. if that air bag had gone off you'd be talking to us with all your bruises, and a broken nose.

Anyways..

Hope it turns out well!

Maybe its time to have the body shop thats fixing it install a new diffrent front clip? Talk to insurance and ask them if you can possibly take the money for the parts and get the parts yourself.. be honest and explain its for some kind of aftermarket body kit. Make sure they know its not about speed, but looks.

I can see the airbags not going off but your seat belt definitely should have held you tight. An agressive stop at a light will cause your seatbelt to lock up.

Before you think about law suits, have a mechanic look at the restraint system and see if there is a defect in it. If there is then I think you have a reasonable suit to at least get back lost wages. Don't shoot for millions, just try to get what you deserve.
