2.2 SC or.....

Alright so I am saving up mass money right now... My question is do I just keep my eco tec 2.2l and save for the SC or do I save for new engine first. Please do not tell me to save for SS. I want to build not just buy... I want the sky to be the limit. Thoughts, Questions, Concerns? All info appreciated

** This was what I was considering to start http://shop.zzperformance.com/store/...ssemblies.aspx.

You don't wanna do an engine swap. That's gonna be more hassle than it's worth. If you don't like wiring, you do NOT wanna do that swap, you pretty much have to rewire the entire car. Though that swap does come with the harness. It would end up being cheaper, and more "built not bought" if you did upgraded internals and trans on the L61, then turbo. You're not likely to even break 300 whp on the 2.2 supercharged, even with upgraded internals. Turbo is gonna make you the most power either way.

I realize all this... If I was to keep the 2.2 I was going to SC and obviously upgrade exhaust, brakes, etc... Then I was going to keep saving for the turbo as well. My worry is I do not think the engine will be able to handle all this "power". This is why I was thinking about starting with engine first... This just seemed to make sense to me but correct me if I am wrong but you got to build from ground up.

Correct. But you linked to a LNF/LHU crate motor for an engine swap. I was just saying don't go the engine swap route, you can get forged internals for the 2.2 and put them in to strengthen the motor to hold more power.

Im not trying to be a smart ass or anything but is there any particular reason why not? So are you saying to add this after I get it sc? If you have a link I can look at that would be great.

Eagle rods, wiseco pistons, gm rod bearings, and arp head studs. That's what you will need to handle higher levels of boost. You can push the stock motor to 250whp fairly safely (usually) some people have made more, some less before having things break. So its all in what you want. If you just wanna sc and not go to a really small pulley, your motor should be ok. However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade to the things I mentioned first and then your motor will be solid up to between 400-500whp

And like tommy said, don't engine swap. You will spend way more time and money on that than it will ever be worth. You can build your motor to be stronger than one of those crate engines for much cheaper and a lot less hassle.

The stage 3 turbos are both extended tip turbos. It's just something that's changed about the wheel of the turbo that lets it flow more air than its regular tipped counter part but not take any longer to spool. For instance, the s256et turbo will flow more air than an s256 but they will spool the same. As for what is a s252 and s256 turbo, they are 52 and 56mm turbos respectively

I'm a 2.2 supercharged and there's quite a few that were before me also. It's not a pain at all really, takes some time but definitely not what I'd call hard

IMO if you want the sky to be the limit you should start with a SS/SC-T swap. But if you are sticking with the 2.2 I would say go turbo and build the internals with Eagle rods and Wiseco pistons
