Turbo Selection Decision - Need input
Turbo Selection Decision - Need input
Well if everything goes right I am about a month away from buying most, if not all, of my twincharge/engine build parts and cant decide on a turbo. Here is my mod list:
Stock blower and Pulley
Custom Cam Kit
78lb Supertech Springs
Diamond 9.5:1
Total Seal Rings
Oversized intercooler kit w/ piping and standard BOV
3" Down Pipe & Turbo Back
A little later down the line I will get my head ported and flow benched. Just want to get the main stuff done first.
My question is which turbo to go after the GT3582R or the GT3071R. Now I want to hit over 400HP, I dont want a terribly slow spool time. I need to stay Garrett because I get a discount through them.
If someone has a different Turbo in mind that would work let me know too. I want it to be ball bearing and most likely twin scroll (if it is possible on the turbo). Oh and obviously it has to fit. haha

i'm on the same boat. I currently run the s20g, but would like to run less boost, less heat, but get a little more power. am thinking twin scroll gt35r or the the HTA gt35r which has a different compressor wheel in a garret turbo for faster spool time.
I heard awesome things about that HTA for the GT35R! Best way I heard to do that is buy a blown GT35R turbo send it in and they will build it with the HTA comp wheel, new comp cover, balance it, its about 600
Yah thats is what ShortStack said a while ago when I first was going to do a turbo build. But now, after long thought, I thought ef it I will do a twincharge...
But then I started talking to ZZP, and they said they would go with the GT35R... I trust them because they have done a few twincharge builds...

yea the 30 is plenty but why not go with the 35r w/ the hta compressor wheel? honestly go with the 35r because your going to have the power you want, and then some if you want more. just make sure you get the right AR (exhaust) wheel size, correct me if im wrong but the bigger you go the lower the spool time. there's like 4 or 5 options for the 35r ranging from a .63AR to like a 1.05AR your choice though
Yah I hear yah! I think I may go with the GT35R with the HTA unless more people have idea's. I think you can get the HTA setup with the GT30R too. But I thought the larger AR the slower the spool. Also will depend on the diameter of the header runners.
a std 30r will net you 400 with out even thinking about it.
400's a **** goal IMO. its easy.
a twinscroll turbo is utterly useless with out the proper manifold to use it. if your talking to zzp, then i know you don't have one.
HTA's are money if you need the flow per wheel size, for 400, you wont. save your self some money and get a "normal" 3076.

I wasnt talking to ZZP about the turbo in the first place, I just stated that I wanted to run a 3071 and one of them said your better off going GT35R, so this is why I made the thread. My buddy was the one talking about the twin scroll option and HTA option, he has a ton of EVO friends running them, and he is very knowledgable about turbo'd cars, and this was just an idea that he through out. I didnt really give him a power goal of mine.
What is the spool like on the 3076? With the blower you think full spool at 3000? 3500? 4000? Will that depend if I get the .63 .82 1.06 turbine housing?
Does it have enough top end to make power to 8k if I decide to redline there?
Thank you for your input 06black.
Its not a **** goal at all. I dont want 500+WHP like some of us, just want 400-450 and that should make me happy.
its still a **** goal. if your only looking to make that power, I'd down size the turbo even further and make a bunch of torque.

if hes so smart about them, i hope he would have given you the basics as to what it takes to make it work. or he just doesn't know. like 98% of the other people.

its always dependent on AR, blower or not. I'd stick with a .63-T3 unit on a 2876. it'll require more boost to hit your target, but it'll produce a much more useable power curve.

thats up to your houseing selection. do some research. its not hard.
