Twin charged kit with some race gas nets 465WHP/380tq, but then a problem...

With all the buzz at ZZP, we couldn't wait to see what would happen with some tuning and race gas. We all stayed late to watch the next chapter in the twin turbo saga unfold. After adding race gas, 2 more deg of timing and turning the boost up to 30psi, we spun the rollers and crossed our fingers. http://www.zzperformance.com/miscftp/ZZP-Cobalt-465.jpg

Can you believe it? We hardly can. Car is still holding up strong but the exhaust (mainly the muffler) appears to be a restriction. So we dropped the catback and went for another pull. We crossed our fingers but this motor just keeps wanting more and keeps making more.

When we first developed the twin charged kit, we knew it would work well. Hell, we built one on a GP and went 9's the first month, destroying our competitors hopes of setting any records. So onto to the Cobalt and things have been exciting. We blew up a few motors years ago in our Ion while still in the two hundreds for HP but we learned that tuning. good fueling and low IATs are the keys to keeping things together.

So with new excitement and a car begging to set more records, we made another pull. As soon as the pedal hit the floor, the spool was so hard and the engine roar with so much force, it felt like watching something on nitro methane. The car roared into boost and ripped the tires up screaming for more traction.
After a short cool down, we made another pull in a higher gear hoping to keep the tires stuck to the rollers. We never did get a HP reading but we all guessed it was making over 500. Something let go and we'll be fixing it shortly, can you guess what it is?
Once you do, I'll be asking for some opinions and advice...

wow, that is some intense power, but i would have to guess the axle snapped. if the engine is holding that much power on stock internals that is pretty amazing. This is probly the record for the most powerful lsj on stock internals.

Bingo!
The clutch didn't even try to hold that kind of power. We put the exhaust back on, left the race gas & race gas tune in and it made 440WHP with 25psi. Not bad but we are clutch shopping to go after 500WHP on stock internals. Any clutch suggestions?

Excedy or Centerforce DFX are possibilities. I have heard some negative things about spec, but their figures sound good. Basically its your choice lol.

Alot of people around here upgrade with Spec clutches.
http://cobalt-addiction.com/performance.htm
Go to the transmission section you'll see the spec clutches go from stage 1 to 5 with 5 being designed soley for drag.

Wow I hope your balt has LSD. Isn't this approaching the upper threshold for the LSD on a 05-07 SS/SC?

Spec makes clutches with unique PP's and they have trq ratings well into the 600's...check out their site......u also have to run their billet 360* flywheel with it....not actually sure if anyone has purchased one of these yet..but Spec's SAC clutches have worked problem free by many on here for awhile........

http://www.specclutch.com/

choose ur car on the left...and then once the products come up, scroll down to the clutches and look at the torque rating columns.....stage 5 is over 650......

And it states below:
"This package converts the restrictive and vague factory SAC type pressure plate to a SPEC exclusive billet 360 degree pivot unit with higher load/rpm ability, better drivability and longer life than can be achieved with the factory design. "

Exedy...thats the only one out of spec and CM that ive driven (I owned the CM...dont even bother. The spec didnt shift that clean)...the exedy I replaced my CM with is perfect...and they are located in MI...near you actually.

I wasnt exactly hurting for power either
