2.0L Ecotec gets a boost from GM Performance Parts' Stage Kits

<img src="https://www.cobaltss.net/articles/stage2.jpg" align="left" border="0" hspace="5" vspace="5">Performance upgrade kits for Chevy Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged; Saturn ION Redline
MSRP - Stage One Kit - $500; Stage Two Kit - $750

DETROIT - GM Performance Parts is adding some extra juice to the already high-voltage 2.0L Ecotec-powered Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged and Saturn ION Redline by introducing two supercharger kits that generate real power gain at the wheels. The Stage One and Stage Two performance upgrade kits provide an additional 31 and 36 hp respectively.

"These stage kits are aimed squarely at the hard core enthusiast looking to boost the power of the already charged-up 205-horsepower 2.0L Ecotec engine of the Chevy Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged and Saturn ION Redline," said Nancy Philippart, executive director, GM Accessories. "They deliver increased horsepower and torque throughout the operating range of the engine."

The Stage One Kit (P/N 17801947) with a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $500.00, includes higher-flow fuel injectors and an ECU calibration to provide a 31 hp boost to the Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged and ION Redline Ecotec engine for a total of 236 hp and 205 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Stage Two Kit (P/N 17803229), with an MSRP of $750.00, yields more power through the middle section of the power curve versus the Stage One Kit. The Stage Two Kit includes the parts available in the Stage One Kit and adds a smaller supercharger pulley and drive belt, pushing the engine alive with 241 hp and 218 lb.-ft. of torque across a broad engine speed range.

A Stage One to Stage Two Upgrade Kit (P/N 17803230) is also available for an ION Redline or Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged with a Stage One performance upgrade kit already installed. This kit converts the Stage One to Stage Two, increasing performance from 236 hp to 241 hp and has an MSRP of $400.00.

"The kits are easy to install and conform to all GM engineering and validation standards for the Cobalt and ION," said Philippart. "And, best of all, they're backed by GM."

The Stage One and Stage Two Kits fit 2005-2006 Saturn ION Redline and Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe SS Supercharged models only, require premium fuel, and are available through all GM dealerships.

GM Accessories and GM Performance Parts are sold in North America by Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC, Saturn, Saab and HUMMER dealerships. For more information about GM Parts, GM Accessories or GM Performance Parts, visit www.gmgoodwrench.com.

Please Read the FAQ on these kits and search the site

It pays to know people.....And very few places sell anything for MSRP, unless they want to rape their customers.

Well didn't someone say that stage 2 actually produced 260? That's more than a 36 hp gain. Time will tell though when people start dynoing their cars.

The way I see it. ALL THEORICTICAL and estimated.

Stage 1 = 236 hp

Stage 2 = 1 tenth decrease in pulley size = close to 1 psi increase. 1psi = around 8 hp. Going from a pulley that is 3.4 inches (guess) to a 77.9 mm = 3.07 inchs (3.1), so a 3 psi increase X 8hp = 24 hp increase + 236 hp = 260 HP.

Thats the hope anyways. Today at around 5 pm we should find out!

New Cobalts with Stage 2 kit installed from dealer!!!!!

Crest Chevrolet in Jacksonville, FL is selling '06 SS Cobalts with the Stage 2 Kit installed!!!

Contact me, Eric Wesch, for details...

EricWesch@CrestChevrolet.com

We are also thinking about setting these cars up, at the dealership, for club racing (SCCA).

Immagine going to the dealership, picking out your color, desired HP level and/or desired competition class, and finance it all.

Drop me some feedback at the above email address and let me know what you think.

I have Dealership backing, all I need are buyers!!!!

Stage 1 and 2 kits

Does GM really warranty this add on. I have read that they have to reflash your ECM but I wonder if they will put up a fight for any warranty work on the engine or drivetrain in the future if any problems may arise. Anybody have any info on this....

Stage 2 Kits DO NOT void warranty...

If it is dealer installed and GM parts (pulley and all) it will not void any warranties. But... that is only up to stage 2, there has been no release on the stage 3 as of now.

Prices$$ n info!

I just called 2 dealerships out here in MN, and they both quoted me at $650 for the Stage II.....you can put the parts in yourself but you have to take it back to GM to reflash the puter! HELLZ YES on that boyz!!
Then after you get the GM Stage II in, you can buy the INTENSE Interchange Pulley (or whoevers), and swap it out whenever! Then you don't have to buy the tensioner and there injectors n such, and your puter shouldn't need the AFC controller, or least shouldn't need to be tweaked as much! Everything but the pulley will be GM Certified Parts then, and they won't bitch at ya when needs to get fixed, if it does!
Or when the engine reaches the 60k or 100k dependin' on your warrenty have them program it to the Stage III when it comes out for even more fun!! otherwise it voids your warrenty b4 that!

Be Carefull...

We mark the pulley with a sealant. If the pulley is tampered with, the warranty is voided. We won't fix a blown engine because someone put a tiny pulley on, overboosted, then switched back.
