i dont know how many people here have tried to hit 160mph but me and a buddy hit 155mph tonight before we ran out of road and i was surprised by how stable it felt. it didnt seem squirrely at all. never felt our of control at all. i dont want no flaming about speeding on public roads so keep it to yourself

When did you start to notice a severe impediment to steady acceleration?

it actually didnt take that long to hit 150 but after that it didnt really accelerate that fast. it took probably 10-15 seconds to get to 155 from there and after that it just didnt wanna accelerate anymore, i cant remember the exact rpm i was at but it wasnt redlining and the computer wasnt shutting it down or anything, it just felt like it was drag limited or something. in all honesty it was kinda disappointing. we thought driving that fast would be a little more exciting.

next time you go 150 mph, turn the wheel just a little, it will get a lot more exciting (frightening) real quick.

ya it will deffinately make your heart skip...just dont twitch the wheel too much or u wont be able to hear how "exciting" it gets...Due to the fact that you may loose control and just be unconcious while you wreck...just be careful bro

I went 150mph in 100% stock form and 160mph plus with Stage 2.

I love living in a state where 50 miles of highway is closed off twice a year for legal speeding, 105mph plus in most classes.

I'm assuming you took the govenor off? or does it come off with the stage II?

I've only been able to get up to 140mph because a govenor prevented me from going any faster. Tons of road left, pedal floored, wouldnt get any faster, rpm's at about 4500

there is no govener. Car manufacture's are not required by law to put a speed limiter on cars thet come stock with z rate tires. I have had mine up to 150 and it's bone stock!

There is the Sandhills Open Road Challenge and another one but I cannot remember the name.

Here is a link to the Sandhills Open Road Challenge:
http://www.sorcrace.com/

The Sandhills run is pretty monitored so going above class speed results in disqualification. They do have a one mile shootout which is quite fun though.

By the way, chipmonk212121 is there a specific reason you are a smart ass/jack ass in every post that involves high speeds?

hrmmm, then I wonder why I couldnt get past 140. It's no biggy though, I don't ever seeing myself get up to that speed again. I just wanted to do it once to see what I could get out of it while floored. 140 is plenty fast for me. Getting caught at anything over 100 = no license. Not worth it to me.

Yah, drag limited. Do you know what that means. It means that you can go faster if you have more tq and hp, but it stops because the car just doesn't have the power to go any faster.

The car ACTUALLY has a limiter. It's set at 158. If you have tried tuning your car with HPTuners, you would know.

Yeah sounds like the time the sales manager at the dealership I used to work at took me and another sales guy for a test run in a Cadillac DHS. 140mph and it felt like we were just cruising along. I wouldnt expect the cobalt to be that smooth, but it sure sounds like it. I'd personally never try that again.

Guys the speedo in a Cobalt isn't off by 10mph at 150.

The only real inaccuracy they have is instant display of speed. Both the Speedo and Tach are fed ECM processed signals neither are direct connect. Due to this they have a little delay in information display.

I would say the stock speedo display may be off by 1-2mph at 155mph.

The Cobalt SS/SC is well suited for high speed driving, in the right conditions and a compitent driver 145mph isn't dangerous. Scary but not dangerous alone.

Given there are unexpected things like deer or other animals but those variables are un controlable in most situations outside of Daytona Speedway.

Strange, I've hit 140mph in my car several times, and that is all the car will let me do. Mine is goverend at 140mph, but I would like to remove it. Mabey it has to due with what state you buy your car in? Differant states have differant laws when it comes to whats leagal and what isnt. Look a cali, they have some of the most strict laws when it comes to emissions. Not a real big deal though because I mainly drag my car at the track, and if I am hiting the governer before the end of 1/4 mile my car is way too fast to be my daily driver anymore. It would be nice to beable to top out my car at least one time though.
