200,000 mile cobalt....
No, its been this way for at least a year...gradually getting worse. Chain hasnt been replaced and i dont intend to. With 204,000+ miles, theres alot that would have to b done once the hatch is opened. Id rather leave her alone untill it blows or becomes impossible to drive...
That's what i've heard. DSM engines have always been known as being strong, but extremely high maintenance. Add in that the car was nearly 15 years old and there ya go. Even low-end cars are simply more reliable now a days.
"It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage"
Perhaps you'll go the route of that guy with the Volvo a number of years back. He hit 1 million miles and Volvo took his old car and gave him a brand new one free.

i almost did that crossing the 20 mile bridge between lafayette and baton rouge in louisiana. low fuel light came on in before lafayette and i figured i would get outta town before i changed. then the bridge started. i pulled into the gas station at 432 miles on that tank. dunno how much i had left cause i wanted to get outta there so i put in 30 and went on my way. i wish i had filled it up to see how close to pushing my car i was. i'm at 147,300 now. or something along those lines.
bingo. and i put 13 gallons in it before i left. over the trip there i made it 704 miles in 10:17 which was ok considering the monsoon i drove through in east texas/west lousiana and conroe being 30mph with stoplights every 200ft. the way back took 13 or so cause 10 turned into a parking lot in mississippi and i hit a broken driveshaft on the bridge coming out of baton rouge slashing my tire, so had to stop in lafayette for 2 hours to get a new tire. ive hit 450 on a tank before when i was hypermiling and still had a bit left. i was averaging 42mpg for about 2 months and got really sick of driving that way.

why bother changing the oil or tires too.
$20 part? There alot more to it. If im gona disect my engine at 200+ k miles, then it would stupid to not replace alota uther stuff n there. That $20 will turn into $2000 easy after labor. I dnt have money for that and YES...Iam gomna run her till she dies...
plus im sure id have to do a timing tensioner? and if im getting inside all that i might as well do a head gasket, which means head bolts too? so it all adds up. lots and lots of money i dont have. So, id just assume leave it be untill its hard to drive. for the most part, the car drives and accelerates pretty smoothely

GM redesigned the timing chain tensioner sometime around mid 2006 . If i were you i would buy the new one and see if it fixes the issue . You really don't have to get too far into the motor to do it ..... some people don't even remove the valve cover.... they just unscrew it and screw the new one in ....( I would do it the right way IE removing the valve cover to activate the new tensioner ) . The old style tensioners are known to collapse so it could be what your seeing.
It's not about the mileage. It's the design. I'll put it this way...when mine gave out, the car jumped timing(multiple teeth) and pistons hit valves, next thing you know the dealer is replacing most of the top end. They did it under warranty but not without a fight.
Im sorry, but i dont feel that much of an issue. Wen i accelerste, there is no knocking or timing issues. Its as smooth as can be just about. I do not know bout cars or motors so replacing the tensioner wouldbt b sumthing id wanna mess with...
