hmm im only at about 1/3 the miles ur at but i was thinking would it be worth it to get the coolant and tranny fluid flushed, i do most of the maintenance on my own oil changes and stuff like that i need to seafoam her again i did it at 25k, i wanna change the cabin filter soon and i was thinking about the fuel filter how hard is that to do and does it need to get done yet.

i did replace trany fluid, but never the coolant. Im thinking about doing that soon. fuel filter i do evry 30k miles. sometimes ill wait 40k miles.

passed 157k miles... there has been a slight delay in the mileage do to a new paint job and out of service for 5 days!! heres pics. the color is MAZDA Blazing Orange. similar to the new ecclipse fire orange

lol crazy. i think the spoiler looks weird since you don't have the middle piece but i guess thats different. dual exhaust is cool. the tail lights i do not like however. still props to go 150K+ crazy!!

150,000 miles on a modern engine isn't surprising at all. My parents had a 90 some Buick that had well over 200,000 miles (around 270,000 iirc) on the engine and it had no issues and still ran great when they sold it. Ecotec is a good engine, I don't see why it would have issues reaching 300,000 miles if cared for properly. If you're driving that much, getting an oil analysis done wouldn't be a bad idea. Then you know how far you can go between oil changes. Might want to consider switching to one of the oils with a more robust additive package designed for longer oil change intervals (Mobil 1 EP, Amsoil) so you don't have to change it as often. Being able to push them out to around 10,000 miles wouldn't be surprising. In the past I generally went by 30,000 miles on other things like coolant and air and fuel filters.

highway miles are the easiest ones to put on a car (suspension & drivetrain wise).

I normally do 3k mile oil changes for city driving, and 5k mile oil changes when I'm mostly doing highway driving - then again, I'm also running conventional oil...

you're on pace to out-mileage me come fall - and I'm driving 19 year old car!!

I love the dual exhaust;
I'm not sold on the colour from those pics;
I'm not a fan of the chrome look handle(s);
and (really, no offense) I'm hating the tails, and 2/3 of the high rise you have left on there...

Do you have the center section of the spoiler still?
- I would think that if the spoiler broke, you could have removed the spoiler ends, and had the trunk holes welded up when the car was getting paint...

??

The chrome is from wen i had chrome whels. And the spoiler needed sum extra work done so i havent put it bak on yet.

Thanks for telling us - at least you should receive no more comments on the spoiler!

I have heard of some peoples spoilers breaking and them being left on the car with pieces missing because they are apparently not even remotely cheap...

regardless as to what I think, as long as you are still liking your car, that's all that matters - hopefully my throwing out my opinion wasn't bothersome!

Ya lol. My car was vandaluzd few yrs agp with paint stripper. It ate away the spoiler n it wasnt sanded right, look wavy. So im tryna fix it.

Some one on another thread was talking about smething similar. They were talking about it possible being a wheel bearing, because the noise is consistant with wheel speed rather then engine speed, but could be a tranny issue though

My Cobalt is my first <100k car and all my cars have either been just under or just over the 200k mark. The general problems I ran in to at high mileage was front ball joints failing, engine mounts wearing (time more than mileage), water pump, belt tensioners, and other suspension items. I find the engine, transmission and diffs hold up as long as regular maintenance is done.

that might have been me. my exhaust is so loud its hard to pinpoint exactly. my first thot was the sound was consistent with the speed of the car, not the engine. now, i come to find out that the sound is less evident when not in gear. so when its in gear, i can hear it alot better. trany shop thinks its the throwout bearing getting bad. considering 158k miles on it, it would be a possibility...but i really dont think so given the fact that someone else has a similar issue even after they put a fresh clutch in.

If you drive all highway there is no reason you can't go 7500 or maybe even more between oil changes.

As far as maintenance, only thing I can think of that you may want to do is have the timing chain and tensioners replaced. I am not sure if there is an actual set service mileage for the timing chain, but I definately wouldn't hurt to change it.
