advice on buying this cobalt

Hey guys, new to the forum here and I am looking at buying my first car. I am looking at a 2008 cobalt 5 speed standard with 36000 km's. It looks mint in tthe pictures, I can't go to view it in person forr at least a couple weeks. He is askin 7250 but said he will let it go for 6800. What do you guys think, here's the link to the add.

Looks freakin mint! Super low km's too! I just paid $7,200 for my 07 SS/SC with 80,000km's on it.

I couldn't find anything even close to $6,800 for that car around here.

I definatly wont be able to get a super charged on around here for around the same price. Every ss for sale in my area is at least 12 000 and they all got over 70000 km's. which i want to stay away from (higher km's). This one is in really good shape by the looks of it. My only concern is the reliability of these cars. every time i mention getting a cobalt to some people they go on about how crappy they are and how poorly they are built, etc. Is this true? i know with all cars there will be the odd one with problems but are these reilable cars? will i have a bunch of expenses in getting thngs fixed in the ext few years? thanks

Depends on how well you take care of it. If you take care of it it will probably run forever. If you beat the crap out of it and dont do the regular maintaince then not as long. That's true with most cars. Well maintained cars will last a long time. Especially if your from the south where they don't rust.

What?? 12k for an SC with 70k KM? That's weird. I find LNFs for that price.
Anyway, your friends talk by what they hear. It is true that the interior is not a "GTI-strong", but that's about it. Any other compact or hatchback below $ 30k fails in front of an LNF.
Well, the point is really how much you care about performance. Do you wanna have a lot of power or not?
Tell your friends that I have 2 LNFs, for a total of 85k miles. Never a problem, not even a little code CEL, or a check light for a misfire.

As long as you don't mind spending $2,000 on brakes and suspension at around 80,000km's then I have no idea what everyone is talking about

No clue about the 2.2s, made ask in the 2.2 section. They would have more exp with the LS and LT balts.

^this. If it's gonna be a dd and a basic Lt/Ls you'll be fine as long as you do the normal maintenance.

Now, just waiting for my new tranny and engine mounts so I can do some nice dual tire smoky burnouts without my car rattling/hopping itself to pieces!

I have an 06 ls with almost 92k miles on it. I've had to replace front brakes, 1 set of tires, the front control arm bushings went, I had an oil leak fixed under warranty, and that's about it. This car has never left me stranded or broke down, I wouldn't start once but I found the safety switch on the clutch was adjustable and it had moved out of place. Fix that it started right up. This has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. I really wish it was more exciting but it's not. I change the oil every 5k miles with full synthetic, and just recently flushed the brake fluid. Still got the original clutch, and I drive it hard, so... I say go for it.
Just keep in mind it's a econo box.

What there means you have the LSD? I have a g85 my tag says g85 in it.

***edit never mind I see your g85 in there. It's in a different spot than mine. Mine is in the first line where you dc4 is.

yes they're reliable.....people like to talk **** on the cars cause they move on to something they feel is better and have to make excuses as to why they did so. sure they have their qwirks, they're not a fking mercedes and the price of them reflects that. there's plenty of people who have almost 200k with no major issues.

Mechanical reliability seems to be fairly good on these cars. The bushings and suspension components wear out quickly and obviously the interior build quality is about as bad as it gets. These cars get a lot of bad press because the interiors are awful, but considering the price and the miles you aren't likely to find many better options for a daily driver. Just make sure you are okay with a slow car that has a terrible interior.

Never had any suspension or bushing problems in 66k miles lol. Any problem I've ever had which has been about 0 was inflicted by myself anyways. Besides the ic pump dying when it was s/c but that's not really gm's fault, well, it was when the wires were reversed from the factory ^_^.

The roads in Iowa are very rough so my suspension wearing out after 50K is likely due more to my (ab)use of the car than anything else. That said, the soft parts of the suspension on other cars I have owned did not wear out as quickly.
