Another 06 2.2 guy… (build)
Alright my fellow enthusiast!
I am in need of some information, everything is outdated and I’ve been going through days of forums.
I have a l61 2.2 (1st gen)
right now everything is stock for the internals, of course (it can’t be tuned)
that being said I plan on attempting multiple different methods to allow a tune for the 06.
the last gen Cavalier( 03-05)used a l61 2.2 (86mm bore heads) I can’t remember the other specs but they are the same for my 06.
I’m currently looking into a complete rewire from the cobalt wiring to a cavalier, I don’t know if this is possible but it is just an idea rn.
my plan is a full standalone ATM.
my goal for the car is push as much hp until it blows(I don’t want it to blow, but you gotta set the bar somewhere😂
I need updated links for pistons, rods, injectors, and so much more for the l61.
Ive been looking into cavalier turbo builds and I have seen that 2.2 cavalier can push A LOT more than most think, I’m wanting to use the cavs upgrades for the cobalt.
im looking for real advice, many people said the manual swap wasn’t worth it, but i would do it 10x over.
help me get this 06 (not tunable) cobalt to 400 hp🤙
but fr, I’m prepared to blow it and rebuild it.
Hopefully there are some cobalt, cavalier nerds out here, I’m trying😂
This is what she looks like rn. She’s bone stock motor, I plan on posting as I build.

If your plan is to do a full standalone, then you don't need to do a rewire to Cavalier specs.
Standalone has been done by someone on this forum: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-2l...thread-321284/
Also, forum member @5-Speed can provide you with a standalone when it comes down to it. Not sure if he can do it PnP or not.

Was planning on similar with my 04 Ion soon. But lost the car (along with 2 others) to a building fire this week.
Ions arent tunable either, but was going to try to see how far I could push it without a standalone, afpr and swapping to a return style fuel system. I had a small advantage though with having an IAT sensor vs the maf sensor
