this bugs me so bad (look)
cobalt cavalier its all chevy so its all good everyone i know calls my cobalt ss/sc a cavalier on steroids i just tell them maybe you should give your car steroids and it will look as good as mine haha
Figured debadged Cobalt owners would be more offended when someone calls their car a Ford. Didn't someone actually get ticket that called called it a Ford when the cop saw no chevy badge on the back?
You answered your own question. It came out right after the Cavi ended.
And yes 05 saw both cars as GM used up the Cavi parts they had on the shelf and the Cobalt wasn't ready till near the end of the model year.
Just came to think of it, if the Cobalt is called a Cav b/c it replaced it, then would the Camaro be another Corvair? It did replace it, but the only reason why the Corvair was run for a few more years was to take a stand against Nader's book.
Arguement against that is that the Corvair was a completely different machine compared to the Camaro.
Probably something I shouldn't be thinking about. Probably why Ford dealerships were confused about 500s/Taurus. Soon to be the confusion b/t Focus and Fiesta. Or our confusion will expand to Cav/Cobalt/Cruze.

The camaro wasn't a replacement for the corvair. They both served similar pusposes, that being to be a Chevy alternative to other vehicles on the market, but they targeted different vehicles. The Corvair was designed to compete with VWs, hence the whole rear-engine boxer air-cooled thing. The Camaro was Chevy's entry in the Musclecar game, a game created by the GTO, also a GM vehicle.
As far as Cavaliers and Cobalts go... they're the same thing, just updated. I had a 91 Z24 Cavalier, and loved the thing. When I went car shopping in 05, I had a choice between a Cavalier and Cobalt, and picked the Cobalt because it was exactly an update to my Cavalier. Now I drive an 08 Cobalt, and love that thing too.
There's no need to hate on the Cavalier, it's the Cobalt's daddy. I love em both.

Hell yeah! my first car was a 93 Cavalier Z24 with the 3.1 and that beast ran till about 280,000 (give or take a couple houndred more) miles till my tranny started slipping and eventually went out.
dont trip i get the same **** at work all the time....but its watever...they all know that my car is faster than there bitch ass vtech.....they just talk all that **** cuz i broke mine so early in the game dont dont trip foo....dont let it get to you
Obviously not the LSJ so no one make a smartass comment say it's not applicable to this thread because I know it's not... but since all Cavaliers down the stretch were Ecotecs and 90% or whatever it is of 05-08 Cobalts have the same L61. If GM was ashamed of the j-body they would have made more drastic changes to delta and not had styling cues to the former cars (reverse lights on the G5 coupe, etc.)
