I can't tell ya why they didn't include the Cooper S, but they probably didn't include the GTI because it's undergoing a total redesign. I've been hearing a lot of hype surrounding the new GTI, but it's probably just that; hype.

I owned a 2002 GTI 1.8T, and while it was an EXCELLENT car for the daily grind, it just didn't have what it takes when the roads turn twisty. While the acceleration was fairly quick, the handling was lackluster at best. Understeer was the recipe of the day. I do believe that the tires had a great deal to do with the lack of good handling. I replaced the Eagle RS-As with BFG Traction T/As when the time arose for new tires, and the handling had improved greatly, but it still wasn't enough to keep me happy. On March 30, 2005 the GTI went bye-bye and in stepped the 2005 STi.

I miss the practicality of the GTI, however. It was a comfortable ride, and was stiff but not harsh, got good gas mileage (appr 28mpg), had decent acceleration, and it never ceased to amaze us at how much stuff you could fit in the trunk, or in the back with the seats down. It really was a great car; just not a great performance car.

I hope with the 5th generation of the GTI, things have changed.

Its funny to see some of you guys gloat over the fit anf finish of the Cobalt over the SRT4 but I have seen so many threads and problems arise from this so claimed "fit anf finish" than the Cobalt SS has. Poorly made seats, poor materials, whinging engine noises (not the S/C), leather coming from under the trim, plastic rattling, etc etc. I think some of you need to take a step back and realize these are all economy-budget oriented cars they are built on.

Sorry bro but a RSX-S isn't going to handle better than any ACR neon.

I think your dreaming if you think the Cobalt is a better bang for the buck than the Neon.

As for this article. Yes it was called "cheap speed". Did they give a fair comparisson to their title? No. If they were to retitle it "Iinterior racing 2005" then I could see how they placed them perspectively.

I love how u call it a neon. Im sorry i try to be nice when it comes to srt punks but please if you actually think that a neon is overall better car you all fucked up. The SS is a total package it has everything. It might not be the fastest but it kicks ass in everything else. The C&D number I think are *****. Kinda like when the tested the Srt-4 in MT.

Lets see how the cars stack up. (Numbers from C&D / MT)

SRT/SS.........................................Best

0-60 - 5.3/5.9................................Srt-4
1/4 - 13.9/14.4..............................Srt-4
Braking 70 mph ft - 169/160...........SS
200 ft skidpad - 0.88/0.89...............SS
600 ft salom mph - 67.2/69.............SS
Autocross in C&D...........................Srt-4
Autocross in MT..............................SS

Exterior - Srt-4 looks like a NEON with a big spoiler and hood scoop/SS stylish 2 door with big ass rims and a spolier to match

Interior - Srt-4 ugly ass interior with viper seats that only a 160 pounder can fit in, cool shifter out of a 1994 S10, really futuristic power windows infront and manual in the back./SS amazing 2 tones interior that is extremely comfortable, descent room for a 2 door, lacks an arm rest.

I dont hate the Srt-4 or the owners is just don't like bitches coming on to the forum talkin ****

Ummm, I don't want to play Devil's Advocate here, but you're doing the exact same thing that you claim you hate that SRT-4 owners do. I believe you referred to it as "talking sh*t?"

Just because a few other people come over to the forum and act like tools doesn't mean that you have to stoop to their levels.......Just enjoy your car, man. Relax.

Looks is a matter of preference. Same thing can be said pretty much about BOTH cars:

Exterior - SS/SC looks like a COBALT with a big spoiler

Interior - SS/SC ugly ass interior with Recarro seats that only a 160 pounder can fit in

As for the seats that only a "160 pounder" can fit in. I'm 6'2 and weigh ~250lbs and I have NO problems or issues with my "viper" seats.

Very true, looks are subjective. Same story when I decided to get my STi. I've loved the STi's looks since 1994, while the looks of the Evolution have never done much for me. With the latest iterrations of the Evolutions, I like their looks more than the previous models, but I still like the way the STi looks better. I bought the car that I liked the looks of better (but Mitsubishi's poor reliability record also pushed me away). Between the two, I like the way the SS looks more than I like the way the SRT-4 looks. If I were in the market for nothing more than going in a straight line, I would choose the SRT-4, but there's more to it than just a straight line for me.

I sat in an SRT-4 at the dealership a while back, and I personally HATED the seats. I'm 5'11 and about 200lbs. I have no idea which seats they were, but they were definitely "racing seats." The back of them curved way too much. I couldn't even get my back to sit flat against the seat. At the shoulder height, the seats wrapped too tightly and my arms were actually "scrunched." I guess these seats are optional? Because I'd surely hope so.

Those are the "viper" seats. They do break in quite nicely though... and they keep you in place when you toss the car in a corner hard.

They are the standard seat, however 2004+ models you could get optional side-curtain air-bags in a package that also replaced the seats with the standard Neon R/T seats.
