Cobalt LS is it really worthless?
Cobalt LS is it really worthless?
Hello everyone! alright this is my first post and what not so here goes. Well i just recently bought my Cobalt LS. Its Automatic and yes i know everyone is telling me to get an SS. I like the way my LS looks and everything but as from all the car drivers in my area...there point of view is its just a waste of time trying to get it as good as the SS. I however think they are wrong and can make my cobalt a monster. So far all i got is red racing strips ( woooohoo ) that my grandfather got for me as a gift for my car. ( cheap bastard wouldnt get me my air intake ) So as of now. The only thing i can think of is getting my air intake ( and i'm thinking K&N ) and getting my exhaust done. From there i'm at a lost as of where to go. I in the long run want to put a turbo in..maybe even twin if it can handle it. My question is..is it really worth the trouble trying to upgrade my lovely Cobalt??
^^^Truth.
There are complete turbo kits out there that will make your little LS hang with an SS...you just need the money and the know how, or the extra $$$ to have it installed. Mkulrey's got a pretty bad ass turbo sedan...

ive put about 6k into my LS...almost half its value...however, i have one of the baddest LSs there are. Soon to be supercharged, full boltons, lowered, struts, red dash, red door panels, red SS seats, wideband, boost gauge, dual red interceptors, shift+, rims and tires...the works. For a simple go fast car, I'd get the garrett turbo kit, lower it, and get some nice rims. $3300 for the turbo, $1.5 for rims/tires, and a couple $ for springs. Add $1k for professional install if ur having it done. Is it expensive? yes, but your car will be running low 14's for under $18k total. to put that into perspective, a $20k civic SI runs mid 15's, and a $25k Mustang GT runs somewhere in the 13 range.
Plus if your at highschool...no one will know what that means...theyll just hear you have a turbo and think that makes it super fast

As someone who has loved and lost in the SS game, there really is no comparison.
The SS is a lot more car than the LS. Not just in power, but over all performance, as well as interior, etc.
You would spend a lot more money upgrading an LS to be the same car.
Remember, the SS is built for boost, the LS isnt.
Also, the suspension compnents can be VERY expensive.
But, its all in what you prefer.
The LS is still a nice car. But unless you spend some serious cash, you will only be able to get so far.
Welcome aboard!

For me a LS was worth it, Paid 13k Put about 5K into it, now im faster then a stage 2 sitting at 239whp 249wtq with room for improvment with tunning. Insurance is cheep on 4 doors too
Mine is for sale. $15k...
It'd be a good upgrade for you and probably wouldn't run you too much more a month... depending on what you picked that up for.
Dumbest comment ever.

That's whats up. I didn't think there would be alot of people who thought an auto LS would make it out there. Glad to hear that there are other Cobalt Riders out there to give me ideas and have my back. Thanks everyone. I will make sure to keep everyone posted in what my Balt is gonna be like! Thanks!
You gotta remember, Race cars mostly use autos...people who bash autos for racing, dont listen to them. Most of the time at the track, i would prefer an auto just for the consistency it has.
i agree. I mean i want my car to be a racer but more over i want my car to live with me forever. As much as i loved the camaro...as soon as i set foot into my LS and drove i loved it. i just want it to where it can be up there with everyone elses.
So is the K&N filter really the good filter for the LS? or is there one better?

^^^ creepy
do exactly what you feel like doing, some people or performance first and some go with looks. hell i mixed it up with tint, debadging, audio and performance parts all at the same time.

i had an auto 2.2 for about 2 years. i came to the conclusion that it just wasn't worth it anymore to keep dumping money into it. i could have spend thousands and thousands to run 14's, and then have to worry about uprading the suspensoin to handle the power, bigger brakes, etc. you CAN make the car fast, if you have a big wallet. most people just want the extra power, not realizing that the tires, suspension, and brakes are not capable of handling that power for too long.
i got out of the red with the 2.2, sold it, and got a 2.0. my payments are the same, and it's a rediculous difference of a car.
only way you're going to make big power is to go with a turbo, and nitrous. bolt ons do crap for an auto. the 4 speed gearing sucks any power that you're making out. you can go fully bolted, and still run 16's.
