The LSJ engine is built in germany. And the tranny is also german. So: SS>WRX

If you don't mind FWD, I think the Cobalt seems like an awesome car. I had a Cavy for like 7 yrs, and it of course wouldn't come close to the SS, but it was fun and it took a beating. I've seen the inside of the SS, but haven't driven one. It's pretty sharp. I wouldn't say the WRX interior is allll that bad. There is way worse, but it's not above average. As far as American vs import, to me that is moot argument in this day and age. Everything out there is assembled, built, pieced together, etc. in all parts of the world. Only the name really seems to have any ground with regards where it's from. But I can still respect those that feel obligated to stick to an American brand. I'm impressed that the ppl on this board can be open to suggestion. It can be a rare thing. If I had room (more like money )for another car, the Cobalt would definitely be top of the list.

If you want instant market support for modification, then yeah, WRX. There's tons of companies with their own versions of CPUs and parts and what not. But if your willing to wait it out, I'm sure it's just a matter of time and R&D before parts start popping up for the Cobalt. I don't think you can lose either way. I just like plowing through the snow in the winter. But hey, get yourself some good winter tires and who knows!

p.s.
Where in with the WRX you could drop the cluth at 7grand and still catch traction after a minor tire slip.
That's only going to work 1 or 2 times.

Well put. While getting my business minor about 5yrs ago the example used to illustrate various concepts in multiple classes was the auto industry. I am patriotic to the core and love to see money put back into America, but with the way businesses are run these days, in the end there isn't as much difference as people think. Without getting long winded, suffice it to say that in a general sense RicerX is correct.

Well the WRX/STI isnt the easiest car to tune (the computer hates new parts). Throwing on parts often leads people to lose power. It requires alot more research per part I would imagine then normal.

Since the SS is new parts are going to send your wallet screaming as soon as the aftermarket kicks into gear.

I guess its really New 'Small' 2 door VS Established 'Big' 4 door.

To be perfectly honest, get a used WRX. Theres just to many pluses to it. Once you spend the amount you would have buying an SS on modding the rex the SS couldnt touch you.

The major benefit to the Cobalt in my opinion is the warrenty and price of parts to fix. If you buy used you may have some warrenty left but not for long, then you'll have to pay out of pocket for import parts which are more expensive than domestic.

I've seen tons in person, they're all over the place here. I have also sat in a bunch of them. I just don't see any way that a Cobalt could compare to a WRX, there's no competition so far as i can see. The WRX TO ME is way superior in many ways, i tried to explain my reasoning beyond just looks too.

It's cool

I don't want to come off as a total Subaru fanboy either, 3 of the 5 cars i've owned are GM, my dad has 3, my mom has 1 & my fiance drives 1 also. Good cars, but i've made the switch to Subaru with my last purchase & can't believe the difference. I still love my GM though, i just worry sometimes because it has over 80,000 miles since they're not known for longevity. The Subaru i recently bought has 103,000 miles though & i'm not concerned, it's backup for when the other car is down
