This is just my opinion, I would suggest getting something more like this instead http://www.actron.com/product_detail.php?pid=16150 . If you're good with computors and have a laptop you might want to look into getting this also www.autotap.com , you should order the G.M service manuals as well. BTW, Probably the best place to order your service manuals from is www.fredbeans.com, ask for Gene in parts.

simple odbII reader. no screen and modes just a code reader. it flashes the number up and if you let it cycle 3 times on the 4th it clears all codes if ou do not remove it first. then it comes with a book to tell you what each code number means

I have autotap, it's pretty useful. I purchased the extended GM package.

It's expensive, but it's a great tool.

I have an OBDII Code Reader I bought off e-Bay. It was only like $30 I think, but it works fine for pulling codes. Its realy small, its just got an LCD on the fron that displays the code, and then you can look it up in the book they give you (it only contains generic coes though). It can also erase the codes if you leave it in after the code is flashed 3 times.

If you want the extra values specific for GM, you need to buy the additional license. However, you don't need it to view the basic values and CEL codes.

To be honest, the software is somewhat antiquated, but still an invaluable tool when diagnosing a problem or tuning.

The Interceptor Scan Gauge will allow you to check and delete codes. Plus it monitors a bunch of other stuff. I want one but I am probably going to wait until next spring.
