Dealership help from Canadian Cobalt Owners

Hey guys, Im gonna be heading over to a couple of the local GM dealers here on the weekend, looking to get my hands on a new 06 Cobalt SS/SC. I was wondering if the Canadian guys/gals here could give me an idea of how much I should be able to pay for the car, out the door or what the average price most of you guys have been able to get the car at from your dealerships. I saw a SC Cobalt at a dealership a few weeks ago and I could see that the price was massively inflated (never go by the MSRP anyway) but even this MSRP seemed to be really inflated, being around high $27K. Ive done one of those online build your car things from GM.ca and managed to get a price of around low to mid $25K for the car with the options I want (namely just hte side airbags). It would be go to get an idea of whether this is a "good price" or whether I can work with the dealers to get below this. Thanks for the help!

One last thing, if you guys have any heads up where the dealer might try to tack on some hidden taxes or other money making tricks, that would be great.

its the sunroof that drove up your price, and i think that the dealers are ordering their lot cars with sunroofs, so you might have to custom order it

It's in the dealers interest to get the car loaded with option as they get a cut of everything.

I wanted my GT with nothing more than standard options so they had to search for one. Luckily, there was one fairly close.

The one I saw for 27K wasnt even the Recaro sport package, so the dealer was definetly overcharging by a wide margin, considering you can get a SC (with only the airbags) for 25K with PDI factored in. The above prices are all list price though and are nowhere near where you can pick the car up when using some effective price haggling.

You mentioned 29K for the list price for you SC with the performance package, is that how much you walked out the door with and with taxes included? You'd go well over 30K if that was before taxes.....taxes is the damn killer as I figure even if I neogioate the car down to mid 24K, once you add the 1K PDI and then add taxes, it will still total out at 29K. I make the assumption that tax on new cars is 15% here in Ontario....anybody, feel free to correct me. ******* tax!

One final thing, does anybody know if freight/PDI is calculated into the dealer invoice price (what the dealer pays for the car)? I was working out figures assuming that the dealerships themselves dont pay freight, that they just pass it on to the consumer.

Sticker! There aren't many of these in Canada. Small dealers are alloted only one at a time.

tax is 15% on new cars, which basically wipes out the discount that everyone in ontario gets for knowing someone who works for GM
