DP size difference?

I was looking into getting a 3in downpipe that shrinks to a 2.5in at the end to bolt up to my catback. i cant use the full 3in dp until i get a 3in catback but i was wondering whats the difference between me getting just a straight 2.5in dp all the way thru as opposed to a 3in that shrinks to 2.5in... any diff in performance?

Why not get a 3" DP wait and then get a 3" Catback? The better the air flow the better the car runs.

thats what i was thinking... or to the rig the 3in dp with the 2.5 to be straight 3 all the way thru when i can get the 3in catback. but for now the 3in thats restricted at the end is it anymore beneficial than a straight 2.5

from my understanding unless you have a turbo or a tvs supercharger then you dont need a 3in catback that a 2.5 is what is best for your car. Someone else may wanna comment on this to make sure im correct.
